Another valued asset at risk of being lost to community access in our locality is the much loved Pop Factory, Porth. "The Pop Factory is more than just a venue, it's where the Valley finds its voice".
Whilst we at Tir Pontypridd aim to deliver our charitable purpose by securing land for the benefit of our community, nature and biodiversity, for many of us community buildings are our vital beating hearts.
If bought by private buyers then the community would lose access and The Pop Factory as we know it could disappear. "The creative energy that's fizzed inside those walls for decades would be gone for good".
When the current owners of The Pop Factory decided to sell the building at a listed sale price of £475,000 a group of artists, organisations and local residents united in their goal to Save The Pop Factory!
The Pop Factory Ltd has been established with the aim of bringing the venue into community ownership, ensuring it continues to serve as a centre of creativity and opportunity. Source: www.thepopfactory.co.uk
An initial Crowdfunder target £250,000 has been set, and The Pop Factory Ltd will endeavour to raise further monies to purchase, maintain and make the building sustainable for generations to come.
