🏇 A Great Night at the Races! 🏇

A huge thank you to everyone who joined us on Friday evening for Plymouth Round Table's Night at the Races at Newton Abbot.

From first-timers to long-standing members, it was fantastic to see such a great turnout and plenty of friendly competition throughout the evening. Some of us managed to pick a few winners, some of us backed horses that clearly had other plans, and a few members are probably considering a career change into professional racing tipsters after their success on the night!

More importantly, it was another great opportunity to get together, catch up, have a few laughs and enjoy a summer evening in good company.

Round Table is all about bringing local men aged 18–45 together to socialise, try new experiences, support the community and build friendships along the way. Events like this are exactly what it's all about.

Thanks to everyone who came along and made it such an enjoyable evening.

If you've ever wondered what Plymouth Round Table is all about, why not come along to one of our upcoming events?

Meet the Tabler: James

A little overdue with posting this one, but it's well worth the wait! 👏

Meet James, one of Plymouth Round Table's longest-serving members.

Born and raised in Plymouth, James is 36, newly married, and a proud father of two teenage children. He works as a wealth manager and enjoys spending his spare time with family and friends.

James joined Plymouth Round Table in 2013 after hearing about it through his business contacts. He originally joined to build new friendships and give something back to the local community. Thirteen years later (with only a couple of short breaks along the way), he's still an active and valued member of the Table.

Over his 15-year career, James has developed a strong professional network, and Round Table has helped him strengthen those relationships while also providing opportunities to fundraise, volunteer, and support local causes.

When asked what Round Table means to him, James said:

"Round Table is like a family, bringing like-minded guys together. It provides an opportunity to try new things, unwind from the stresses of work and give back to the community."

Thanks for your continued support, friendship, and commitment over the years, James. We're lucky to have you as part of the Plymouth Round Table family! 🍻

Meet Jon, our current Round Table chairman for two years running...

Jon is 33, lives right here in Plymouth, and works as a Wealth Planner. He’s been back in the area for about six years now, after spending a chunk of time working and traveling all over the world. The pull of good friends and Plymouth itself brought him right back. He’s been in his current role for five years now and is genuinely passionate about it—he absolutely loves the daily challenges and diving into the world of investments.

Jon’s Roundtable experience started back in October 2021, thanks to a work connection who was already a member. At the time, Jon was just looking for something new in his life. Table was pitched to him as a way to hang out with a great bunch of people, have a brilliant time, and give a little something back to the community. Suffice it to say, it ticked every single box!
After being invited along to a few events, he was completely hooked. Suddenly, he found himself trying out new activities he’d never done before and enjoying the new experience. It was those fresh, fun experiences and the instant camaraderie that drew him in—and it’s the incredible fellowship that has kept him here ever since.

Jon in his own time is a sports fan. Whether he’s watching or playing, you’ll usually find him keeping up with the football and rugby. He’s also a big fan of traveling and exploring new places, but if he has it his way, he’ll be hitting the ski slopes whenever the opportunity pops up!

Jon is incredibly excited to be steering the ship as Chairman this year. He admits that trying to get everyone organized can occasionally feel a bit like a sheepdog trying to round up a chaotic flock of sheep!

But the thing about Table? No matter how scattered things seem, the lads always pull together exactly when it matters most to organize and run our fantastic community events. For Jon, Roundtable has built lifelong friendships and a brilliant support network. Since joining, it has been a real eye-opener for Jon to see the sheer size and scale of Table. The strength of Round Table isn't just in meeting good people locally, but also across Devon, the UK, and the entire world. Wherever you go, you can meet local Tablers who share those same values and are always ready to have a good time with you.

💪 What a night at HYROX! 💪

A huge thank you to everyone who came along to our May Activity Night at Motion Gym, Saltash – what a session! 🔥

Great to see such a strong turnout from Plymouth Round Table, 41 Club, and our guests from Okehampton Round Table, along with other guests joining us 👊

From the tough workout to the laughs (and well-earned food after at Bandits 🍔), it was a cracking evening from start to finish.

📸 Check out the photos – including the group shot and some action from the session!

Starting things off with our weekly 'Meet the Tabler' feature is Graham, one of our current Plymouth Round Table honorary members....

Hello!, Im Graham, I’m 50, a chartered accountant and registered auditor, father of four, grandad to two brilliant grandkids aged 6 and 7, and apparently now the unofficial babysitter for the current crop of Round Tablers.

Outside of work, I love travelling, especially city breaks and international trips. I still DJ occasionally, sometimes alongside some big names from the 90s, and since hitting 50 I’ve started taking on functional fitness events such as HYROX, KeltX and GymRace. I also swim in the sea all year round as part of a 7am club, which I’ve been doing for around four years. It’s great for your mental health and wellbeing.

I joined Round Table in 2015. I had my kids young and, after leaving KPMG, I found myself back in Plymouth more often. Most of my mates were busy with young families, I was 39 and frankly a bit bored, so I joined Table. In truth, I wish I had discovered it 10 years earlier. I think my wife does too!

Since then, I’ve built up another group of great mates, many of whom have skills I definitely lack.

What I enjoy most is that Tablers are a certain breed of people. They want to contribute to their community, have fun and make things happen. I’ve found that to be true not just in Plymouth, but across Devon, Great Britain and internationally.

That is what makes Round Table special.

💬 “What does it cost?” 💬

A question we get asked quite a lot about Plymouth Round Table.

Membership is just £20 per month — but what does that actually include?

✅ National capitation
(This is the membership fee paid to Round Table GB&I which helps support the wider organisation, insurance, events, resources, and national initiatives.)

✅ Area capitation
(This supports local regional activities and helps fund events and support across the South West area.)

✅ Meals at formal business meetings
We usually hold 3–4 formal meetings per year, and your meal is included within your membership.

On top of that, we work hard to make our socials, events, and activities affordable for everyone.
Whether it’s go-karting, a curry night, axe throwing, weekends away, or just a few beers — we always organise things with a sensible budget in mind so nobody feels priced out.

The real value?
🍻 Socials
🤝 Meeting new people
🎯 Trying new things
💬 Support network
❤️ Community fundraising
📍 Being part of something bigger in Plymouth

For less than most people spend on a takeaway or a couple of pints each month.

🔥 WHAT MAKES A GOOD ROUNDTABLER? 🔥

It’s not about your job title, your background, or how long you’ve been around. A good Round Tabler is someone who turns up, gets involved, and backs the people around them. 👊

✔️ Someone who’s up for a laugh
✔️ Someone who helps out when needed
✔️ Someone who supports local charities and the community
✔️ Someone who makes new members feel welcome
✔️ Someone who says “yes” to opportunities and experiences

Round Table is about friendship, socials, community projects, personal growth, and making memories you’ll talk about for years 🍻

You don’t need to have it all figured out — just bring a good attitude and willingness to get stuck in.
