🍻 SOMETIMES YOU JUST NEED AN EXCUSE TO GET OUT AND DO SOMETHING.

Not every Round Table event involves weeks of planning.

A few weeks ago, someone suggested heading to the beach. A handful of us grabbed a disposable BBQ, went for a swim, cooked some food and had a b**r.

That was it. 🌊🍔🍺

And actually, those can be some of the best nights.

Because life gets busy.

Work takes over. Family life takes over. You get home, sort everything that needs sorting and before you know it, another week has disappeared.

Maybe you've recently moved to Plymouth and haven't really built a social circle yet.

Maybe you're a new dad and, while family life is brilliant, you've realised it's become harder to find time to do something that's just for you.

Maybe your old group of mates has gradually scattered as everyone's lives have changed.

Or maybe you'd simply like to meet a few more people and actually put some things in the diary.

That's where Round Table comes in.

Sometimes it's organised activities like our upcoming bike ride, Royal William Yard walking tour or water polo.

Sometimes it's simply:

“Weather looks alright. Anyone fancy the beach tonight?”

No massive commitment. No expectation that you'll make everything.

Just a group of lads, an excuse to get away from the pressures of work and everyday life for a few hours, and the opportunity to do something different.

If you've been following the page wondering what Round Table is actually like, come and find out.

👋 Your first activity with Plymouth Round Table is completely free.

Drop us a message. You might be surprised how quickly you feel part of it.

⚓ NEXT UP: ROYAL WILLIAM YARD – A MARITIME MASTERPIECE!

We’ve got something a little different lined up for our next Plymouth Round Table night…

On Thursday 24th September, Hannah from Plymouth Walking Tours will be taking us on a guided tour of Royal William Yard, exploring its Georgian architecture, naval history, waterfront and some of the stories hidden behind one of Plymouth’s best-known landmarks. 🚶‍♂️⚓

📅 Thursday 24th September
⏰ 7:00pm
📍 Royal William Yard
🚶 Approx. 70 minutes
👨‍👩‍👧 Kids welcome too!

Afterwards, we’ll head somewhere in the Yard for some food, a drink and the usual Round Table catch-up. 🍕🍺

Never been to Round Table before? Your first activity as our guest is completely FREE. 🙌

For members and returning guests, the tour is just £10 per person.

You don’t need to know anyone. You don’t need to commit to joining. Just come along, meet the group and see what Plymouth Round Table is all about.

Our events range from bike rides and beach BBQs to walking tours, water polo, community projects and plenty more besides.

💭 What actually makes a good Round Tabler?

You don’t need to be the loudest person in the room. You don’t need loads of spare time. And you definitely don’t need to turn up to absolutely everything.

A good Round Tabler is simply someone who gets involved when they can, brings something to the group and wants to make the most of it.

🤝 Friendship
🍻 Social nights and activities
🎄 Getting involved with our Christmas Sleigh
💷 Raising money for local causes
🚴 Trying things you probably wouldn’t organise yourself
🧑‍🤝‍🧑 Meeting people outside your normal circle
🇬🇧 Being part of a much bigger national organisation

Membership of Plymouth Round Table is just £20 per month.

That includes:

🍽️ Your meal at our three business meetings each year
🍽️ Your meal at our AGM in April
🇬🇧 Affiliation to Round Table Britain & Ireland, our national body
🛡️ The important insurance cover that comes with that affiliation and enables us to run activities such as our Christmas Sleigh collections and other community events.

But the real value of membership isn't something you can put a price on.

It's having a group of mates to message and say, “Fancy doing something Thursday?”

It's getting out of the house and doing something different.

It's putting a Santa suit on in December and seeing kids' faces light up as the sleigh comes down their road. 🎅🎄

It's organising an event, raising some money and knowing it's going back into Plymouth.

And sometimes it's simply a burger, a b**r and a catch-up with a group of mates. 🍔🍺

Round Table works because its members make it work. You don't have to give up every evening or become a committee member – but you do need to be prepared to turn up, muck in and be part of it.

If that sounds like something you'd enjoy, come along as a guest and see what you think.

No pressure. No immediate commitment.

Just come and meet us. 👋

🚴‍♂️ FINAL CALL – ROUND TABLE BIKE RIDE! 🍻

This coming Thursday 3rd September, Plymouth Round Table are getting out on two wheels for an evening ride! 🚲

📍 Coypool → The Skylark, Clearbrook
🍺 Refreshment stop at the pub
🚴 Then back down again!

Nothing too serious, nothing too competitive – just a good excuse to get out, have a laugh and enjoy an evening with the lads.

If you’ve been thinking about coming along to a Round Table event, this is a great one to start with. No awkward formalities – just turn up, ride, have a pint and meet the group.

You’ll need a bike, but if that’s the only thing stopping you, give us a shout and we’ll see if we can help sort something.

👋 Guests and new faces very welcome.

📩 Drop us a message if you fancy joining us this Thursday!

🎅 Yes, we know it’s only August… but Christmas sleigh season will soon be here! 🎄

This evening, Plymouth Round Table members are getting together to give our Christmas sleigh a full inspection — checking the electrics, lights and everything else to make sure it’s all up and running well ahead of our December collections.

🔋 A big shout-out and thank you to Plymouth Battery Centre, who have kindly loaned us a battery for the day so we can power everything up and give the sleigh a proper test. Support like this from local businesses really does help us keep things going. 👏

Every year, our sleigh heads out around Plymouth for around two weeks, bringing a bit of Christmas cheer to local communities while raising money for local charities and good causes. ❤️

And while we’re getting organised, we could do with a little more help from the Plymouth community…

🍬 SWEETIE SPONSOR WANTED!
We’re looking for a local business that would be willing to sponsor or supply the sweets we hand out to children along our sleigh routes. We’ll make sure our sponsor gets plenty of recognition in return!

🚙 COULD YOU LOAN US A TOW VEHICLE?
We’re also looking for a suitable vehicle with a tow hitch that we could use for the duration of our approximately two-week sleigh collections.

This could be a local garage, dealership, business or even a private individual. Ideally, we need something where we can insure a small number of our members to drive it, or where an appropriate open-driver policy can be arranged.

Having a reliable tow vehicle available throughout the collections would be a massive help and allow our volunteers to concentrate on getting the sleigh around Plymouth and raising as much money as possible.

If you can help with sweets, a vehicle, or know somebody who might be able to, please drop us a message.

🎄 December might feel a long way off… but the work behind the scenes starts now!

Please give this a share — you never know who might be able to help. 🎅🚙🍬

🌊 Sometimes the simplest nights are the best ones… 🍔🍺

A couple of weeks ago, four of us from Plymouth Round Table headed down to Whitsand Bay for one of our more straightforward activities.

Nothing complicated. No big event to organise. Just a disposable BBQ, some food, a few b**rs and a swim in the sea.

Admittedly, it wasn't exactly the calmest evening Whitsand has ever seen 🌊😂 — but that was half the fun!

And really, that's what Table is about. Not every activity needs to be huge or elaborate. Sometimes it's simply about getting out of the house, doing something different, catching up with the lads and keeping things fresh.

🔥 BBQ
🍔 Burgers
🍺 A b**r
🌊 A questionable decision to go swimming
😂 Plenty of laughs

Then we packed everything up, took all our rubbish home with us and left the beach exactly as we found it.

Four mates. A couple of hours at the beach. Simple, cheap and a really good evening.

That's Round Table. Get out. Do something. Have a laugh.

If you're a bloke in the Plymouth area and fancy getting involved in nights like this — alongside some of the bigger things we get up to — come along and meet us. 👋

🥣 ROLLING UP OUR SLEEVES FOR THE PLYMOUTH SOUP RUN

On Monday 20th July, Plymouth Round Table members Chris and Gary, along with our guest Wayne, headed to Hope Baptist Church in Peverell to help with the prep and cooking for that evening’s Plymouth Soup Run.

The Plymouth Soup Run is an incredible community effort, operating 365 days a year, without fail, providing food, hot drinks and essential supplies to homeless and vulnerable people across our city.

Different churches and organisations take responsibility for different nights, with Hope Baptist Church running the Monday Soup Run. Food is prepared at the church before being taken out and served at regular stops across Plymouth.

This time our job was in the kitchen – preparing and cooking a huge batch of soup ready to go out that evening. Judging by the photos, Chris, Gary and Wayne certainly got stuck in! 👨‍🍳🥣

Plymouth Round Table has supported the Soup Run for many years, both through donations of much-needed essentials and by giving our time to help practically.

It’s a fantastic volunteer effort happening every single day right here in Plymouth, and we’re very proud to continue playing our part. 💙🧡

🎉 WELCOME BACK TO ROUND TABLE, CHRIS!

It was a great evening for Plymouth Round Table at our meeting at The Treasury, Plymouth, on Tuesday 14th July, as we officially welcomed Chris Janes back into the Table family.

Chris was previously a member of Round Table before taking some time away to concentrate on his career. We’re delighted that he’s decided to return to Plymouth Round Table and enjoy another year of Table, reconnecting with old friends, meeting new ones and getting involved in everything we have planned!

Our Chairman, Jon Lee, had the pleasure of officially inducting Chris on the night. Welcome back, Chris – it’s great to have you with us. 👏🍻

The evening wasn’t only about welcoming a new member, though.

We were also delighted to welcome William Wills from Plymouth Rotary Mayflower, who joined us to collect a donation of much-needed new socks and underwear for the Plymouth Soup Run.

The Soup Run provides vital support to homeless people across Plymouth, and it’s a cause Plymouth Round Table has been proud to support for many years. Sometimes it’s the most basic everyday essentials that are needed most, and we’re pleased to be able to continue playing our part.

We’ll be sharing another post soon with a little more about the Plymouth Soup Run, the work it does and our longstanding support for it.

A great evening that sums up what Round Table is all about – friendship, getting involved and making a difference in our local community. 💙🧡

Interested in finding out more about Plymouth Round Table? Drop us a message – new faces are always welcome.

⚽ Supporting grassroots football in Plymouth ⚽

Plymouth Round Table is proud to have been able to support Drake FC U13 Colts with a donation towards new kit and jackets for their coaching team.

Grassroots clubs like Drake FC rely on the time and commitment of volunteers who turn up week after week to coach, encourage and create opportunities for young people to enjoy football.

We’re delighted that our fundraising has helped the U13 Colts coaches look the part on matchdays and at training – and, more importantly, allowed us to put some of the money we raise straight back into our local community. 💙🧡

A huge thank you to everyone who supports Plymouth Round Table and our fundraising events throughout the year. This is exactly what your support helps us to do.

Good luck to the Drake U13 Colts for the season ahead! ⚽👏
