CASS+ Each month, we support about 130 people in crisis as they go through court in Devon & Cornwall & into life beyond.

We give free, confidential, practical help & emotional support. We find solutions to complicated situations & guide towards positive change. Our system does not always address the root causes of crime. Anyone can end up at court alone, feeling powerless, trapped and terrified. CASS+ is independent of the system, perfectly-placed inside Magistrates’ Courts in Exeter, Newton Abbot, Plymouth, Bodmin

and Truro. We listen and give free practical advice; emotional support; and ongoing help for as long as they want us with them. We can reduce the risk of re-offending by working with our partners to find solutions to the complicated situations people face, especially when it comes to:

… spiralling financial hardship and debt
… homelessness and accommodation
… general wellbeing
… domestic abuse
… substance use
… mental health, including depression and anxiety
… literacy issues
… general court support
… education, training and employment

⚖️ Our courts are busier than ever. As a result, the government is calling for everyday heroes to step forward as magistrates. We recently met Hannah Bondi from the Magistrates' Association who has written this guest blog:

Interested in becoming a magistrate? Join the Magistrates' Association webinar tomorrow, 11 June at 5pm: https://www.magistrates-association.org.uk/events/new-magistrate-webinar-3/

⚖️ It was a great honour to be invited to the Legal Service on Sunday 7th June, hosted by Revd Jonathan Greener, Dean of Exeter. There were many Devon county justice officials including the High Sheriffs of Devon & Cornwall, Mark Ansell & Harriet Hills. We fully support Mark's advocacy for Restorative Justice throughout his forthcoming term of office, reflected in the order of service here 🔽
