Improving Lives Plymouth

Improving Lives Plymouth Part of the City since 1907, Improving Lives Plymouth has been supporting people in Plymouth, UK with information, advice and practical support.

As a long established organisation, working within the city of Plymouth and the surrounding area, we have an excellent track record of delivering services and developing new ones to meet the needs of individuals and community and voluntary organisations. Improving Lives Plymouth runs information, advice and support services for people with disabilities and long-term health conditions. We also help

prospective volunteers find interesting and rewarding volunteering opportunities and support organisations to provide good quality volunteering programmes.

We’ve got a new short video to share about the Plymouth Wellbeing Hub Network 💚

Wellbeing Hubs are welcoming community spaces across Plymouth where you can pop in for information, advice, and support, and find activities that help you feel more connected and well.

A big thank you to Fotonow (CIC) (and Ross Sinclair) for making the film for us 👏

Please feel free to share — the more people who know about the hubs, the more we can connect residents to what’s available locally.

Halfway through , and we're participating in the Devon 'Spot a Carer' campaign.

A lot of people give every day to support a family member, friend or neighbour with shopping, appointments or just being there. Many of these people will never once think of themselves as a carer. But if that's you, there's support you might not know you're exists.

That might be through Bridgit Care, through us Improving Lives, or somewhere else entirely. As long as you know the support exists 💜

Feel free to drop us a line here or via email if you need help getting connected.

The 2021 census identified 23,956 unpaid carers living in Plymouth, and a further 730 young carers balancing school and care duties. The 2021 census identified 23,956 unpaid carers living in Plymouth, and a further 730 young carers balancing school and care duties.

2021 was nearly 5 years ago, and since then we've only seen the need grow, especially if we broaden the geographic definition of "Living in Plymouth." There are far more of you out there than any census will ever capture.

The point is that all of you are welcomed and encouraged to join the activities we're putting on over carers week this year. Take a look and see if anything strikes your fancy.

YOU ARE VALUED

Thank you to all unpaid carers in Plymouth.

Yesterday our History Club Project had a big archival sort out of a bunch of records and documents from the vaults of Ernest English House, finding documents from as long ago as 1933.

These records aren't just about the history of The Guild or Improving Lives Plymouth, they are the history of local community support in our city. Plans are underway to make this archive publicly accessible so that it can be shared with everyone, so stay tuned for updates!📜📚📃

If you have experience of domestic abuse and or the family courts, this offer is for you.

We'll soon be hosting Red Red and Biddy Mary from Becoming Arethusa CIC, who'll be bringing free art therapy sessions to Mannamead Wellbeing Hub specifically for women with lived experience of these issues. This is such an important topic and one that doesn't get discussed nearly enough, so we're very grateful to Biddy and Red Red for bringing the conversation and their expertise!

This is a chance to explore art therapy, connect with other women, and be part of a creative project calling for change in the justice system and beyond. Don't worry if you can't make this date, there will be more opportunities in the future.
