People always seem to be asking for more wartime history from the germ-man perspective so we're answering that call. Jan Gray is a microbiologist with an infectious enthusiasm for military history and, in particular, the Great War.

Bringing all that together, he will be with us on 8 July 2026 from 7:30pm to deliver his talk on First World War Trench Diseases.

Scratch the itch of curiosity, come along, pick something up and maybe even stay for a chat afterwards...

I'm anticipating Zero interest in our June talk...
And Betty, Nell and Dinah interest, amongst others, when Geoff Turtle tells us about:
The Rising Sun Air Force from Inception to Capitulation.
My limited knowledge of the Japanese air forces - Army and Navy - is that they were fighting each other as well as the Allies so I'm hoping to learn a bit more about them.

Why not join us in the Howe Room at Peterborough Museum on Wednesday 10 June at 7:30pm?

April's talk looks one of our lesser-known military ventures: the British Army's involvement in the Russian Civil War, aiding the White Russians against the Bolsheviks.

Andy Stuart will tell us some Tales from the Great War - Northern Russia 1918-1920 that feature his grandfather.

That's at 7:30 pm on Wednesday, 8 April at Peterborough Museum.

In March (the month, not the place) we have a Spitfire / Battle of Britain talk coming up. Coming down-tiddly-down-down, we also have a Spitfire, a POW story and an excavation - all from the angle of one of those magnificent men.

On Wednesday, 11 March 2026, Nigel Denchfield will present his talk: Digging Up Dad's Spitfire.

If anyone wishes to do some homework, it relates to 610 Squadron.

Please see the pinned post for attendance details.

The February talk is a bit of a departure for us as it isn't history yet.

Our guest speaker Ian McAndrew will be with us on 11 February to tell us about:

Low speed drone technology and its application in future conflicts

and, I believe, a current one.
