Not sure on the traffic and parking situation in Yaxley but, as the WI are involved, expect a few jams...

For our next meeting something special is happening. We are having an open meeting where everyone is welcome including the boys!! As you’d expect there will be tea and cake. This meeting will be at the Austin Hall, we look forward to welcoming you.

This is the three-week warning of this year's PMHG Exhibition!

It's on Saturday, 7th November and kindly hosted by The Peterborough Museum and Art Gallery.

It's free entry, so come along to meet some of us and find out a bit about our wide-ranging interests.

It's also worth mentioning that our next meeting is the following Wednesday, 11 November - Armistice/Remembrance Day itself! Very appropriately, the subject of the talk will be: Collecting and Preserving First World War Relic Am******on - much of which has been personally recovered by the speaker - David Gray - over many years of visits to the Western Front.

Martyn Smith is a WFA member and a regular face at our Cambridgeshire branch meetings. He is a long time student of the Huntingdonshire Cyclist Battalion in the Great War and has built a remarkable understanding of the Battalion and the men who served. Martyn, with the help of friends, has organised his exhibition displaying the history and stories of the Huntingdonshire Cyclist Battalion. The Battalion was of course the local WWI unit to our meeting place in Great Stukeley, so local that several men from the village actually passed through their ranks.

This is a free event and Martyn is offering assistance to people wanting advice on any WWI military research. Do pop along if you can.

People always seem to be asking for more wartime history from the germ-man perspective so we're answering that call. Jan Gray is a microbiologist with an infectious enthusiasm for military history and, in particular, the Great War.

Bringing all that together, he will be with us on 8 July 2026 from 7:30pm to deliver his talk on First World War Trench Diseases.

Scratch the itch of curiosity, come along, pick something up and maybe even stay for a chat afterwards...

I'm anticipating Zero interest in our June talk...
And Betty, Nell and Dinah interest, amongst others, when Geoff Turtle tells us about:
The Rising Sun Air Force from Inception to Capitulation.
My limited knowledge of the Japanese air forces - Army and Navy - is that they were fighting each other as well as the Allies so I'm hoping to learn a bit more about them.

April's talk looks one of our lesser-known military ventures: the British Army's involvement in the Russian Civil War, aiding the White Russians against the Bolsheviks.

Andy Stuart will tell us some Tales from the Great War - Northern Russia 1918-1920 that feature his grandfather.

That's at 7:30 pm on Wednesday, 8 April at Peterborough Museum.
