A huge thank you to the lovely team of volunteers from Mitie who planted bulbs in our Silver Star/SSNAP garden last week 💜
Their kindness and hard work will help make our garden even more beautiful, bringing bursts of colour and joy in the Spring for the patients, visitors and staff who enjoy this special place.
We’re so grateful for your support and for helping us make our garden a lovely place to pause, relax and reflect. 🌹💜

A huge thank you to Ronnie Markham and his team for visiting the Women's Centre this morning and providing much appreciated refreshments for our hardworking maternity staff.
These thoughtful gestures mean so much and are a lovely reminder of the community support behind our amazing NHS teams. Thank you for taking the time to show our staff that they are valued and appreciated! 🥰🍰☕

9 - 15 October is Baby Loss Awareness Week 💙

The annual awareness week, now in its 24th year, is an opportunity for bereaved parents, families, and friends to commemorate babies' lives, and to raise awareness about pregnancy and baby loss.

Here at OUH, messages can be written on leaves and hung on the garden trellis in the butterfly garden, on level 7 of the Women’s Centre at the John Radcliffe Hospital. The display will grow through the week as more leaves are added, offering parents a place to honour and remember their baby.

There are also remembrance trees on level 7 of the Women’s Centre and on the neonatal unit at the John Radcliffe Hospital.

Baby Loss Awareness Week runs from 9th to 15th October and allows us to come together in support of everyone affected by pregnancy and baby loss. 🩷🩵🤍

To honour this significant week, we have worked closely with the team on Level 7 of the Women’s Centre at the John Radcliffe Hospital to provide the lighting to illuminate the beautiful memorial wall in the Butterfly Garden, which was made possible by the generosity of an incredible family.

A remembrance service will take place in the Chapel at the John Radcliffe Hospital on Thursday 15 October at 10 am. Chaplain Ruth Fitter will lead the 30-minute service, which is open to everyone affected by baby loss. No booking is required, and refreshments will be available afterwards.

On Thursday 15 October at 7pm, families, friends and supporters are invited to take part in the global Wave of Light by lighting a candle and leaving it burning for at least one hour.

We hope these events bring some comfort to anyone who has been affected by baby loss.

❤️ ABBEY-CON SUPPORTS LOCAL CHARITIES! ❤️

We’re delighted to welcome The The Silver Star Maternity Fund to Abbey-Con this Sunday! ⭐

This incredible family began fundraising in 2021, after Silver Star supported their daughter through an extremely difficult pregnancy and helped save their granddaughter’s life.

Since then, their fundraising has gone from strength to strength — and they’ve now raised an incredible £40,000! 🎉👏

They run regular stalls, attend events, organise tombolas and have an amazing team of 20+ volunteers helping along the way.

🏆 Their efforts have even been recognised with the Oxford Make a Difference Fundraiser Award!

They’ll be at Abbey-Con on Sunday, so please pop over, say hello and support this fantastic local charity. ❤️

Would you like your baby's name, weight and date of birth to be featured in our next newsletter?

Many families enjoy seeing their little one's name published as a lovely memento to keep in their keepsake box.
We would also be honoured to include the names of babies who were born sleeping, should their families wish them to be remembered in this way.
