To build on momentum from Washington D.C., the OPP moved to New York City for further outreach work.

The evening was co-hosted by Mr. Kashif Zafar, Ms Noorain Khan and Mr. Sohaib Naim and was attended by senior members of the American Pakistani community including professionals, investors, businesspeople and policymakers. The event was held at the Pakistan Consulate in New York and Pakistan's Consul General in New York, Mr. Aamer Ahmed Atozai, shared his support and enthusiasm for the OPP’s work.

Malala Yousafzai, LMH alumna and a member of the OPP’s Advisory Body, shared her excitement that the OPP continued to expand and was developing its network in the US. She expressed her delight that the OPP Malala Yousafzai Scholarship has directly supported talented Pakistani women at Oxford for the past five years and is one of the OPP’s foundational scholarships.

Attendees were pleased to hear the OPP has now supported 52 scholars supported from over 15 cities across Pakistan, in MSc, MPhil, MPP and DPhil programmes at Oxford, with total scholarship funding now exceeding ÂŁ1million. 12 OPP scholars are in residence at Oxford this year. The Allama Iqbal Lecture Series and the Access Programme, which reaches students in Pakistan who have never considered applying abroad, sit alongside the scholarships as part of a wider effort.

The OPP prides itself as a charity of hope. It is not just a scholarship programme; it is a campaign for supporting Pakistan’s best talent. The OPP is owned by every Pakistani who wants to be part of building something lasting for the next generation. The OPP’s New York outreach expanded this powerful community.

OPP seeks to place Pakistan on the global academic table

Beyond its focus on creating scholarship opportunities for talented Pakistani students at Oxford, the Oxford Pakistan Programme (OPP) has a broader vision that centres on mainstreaming Pakistan in global academia and in supporting young scholars who are locally grounded but globally engaged. It is building a talent stream, a new pathway for the best Pakistani minds who could be the thinkers and leaders of tomorrow. And it is a charity of hope: a community of donors, students, and professionals united by a belief in Pakistan's future.

Washington, D.C. was the opening stop of OPP's US outreach. A reception, hosted by OPP’s foundational supporters, Mohammed Khaishgi and Faheen Allibhoy, brought together about 60 professionals, entrepreneurs, and policymakers. In attendance were former US Ambassadors to Pakistan Robin Raphel and Anne Patterson, Pakistan's Ambassador to the US Rizwan Shaikh, former White House Climate Advisor to President Biden Ali Zaidi, Judge Zia Faruqui, Michael Kugelman, Daniel Markey, prominent businessmen, and scholars and professionals from the World Bank, IMF, Atlantic Council, Stimson Center, Carnegie Endowment, Johns Hopkins, Yale, and NDU.

Ambassador Shaikh congratulated Mr Khaishgi, Ms Allibhoy and the OPP team, recognising the initiative as filling a critical gap that the Pakistani diaspora should stand behind. Twelve Pakistani students are currently studying at Oxford this year through support from the OPP. Alongside that sits Pakistan-focused research with Oxford faculty, the Allama Iqbal Lecture Series, and an Access Programme reaching students in Pakistan who would never otherwise apply abroad.

OPP co-founders Mr Haroon Zaman and Dr Talha Pirzada highlighted that the OPP is a campaign for Pakistan’s brightest students who can open doors for others in society and help imagine a new future for Pakistan. The OPP’s outreach lead, Ms. Minahil Saqib, emphasized that the OPP believes in global partnerships and is a platform owned by all Pakistanis.

We are delighted to announce an exciting new partnership between Oxford Pakistan Programme and the Interloop Limited, Pakistan’s leading exporter and diversified global conglomerate, to launch a jointly funded graduate scholarship scheme at the University of Oxford.

As part of this scheme, the Interloop will partner with the OPP to support one outstanding student, preferably a female, from a Pakistani university to pursue graduate studies at Oxford University every year. The Interloop Oxford Graduate Scholarship is particularly aimed at supporting talented young scholars from Pakistan for whom studying at Oxford would be a life-changing opportunity and who have the potential to serve as committed leaders in their field.

This joint scholarship has been made possible with the support of Mr Musadaq Zulqarnain TI, Member of OPP’s Strategy Advisory Body and Chairman of Interloop Ltd. This new scholarship is a testament to his commitment to nurture, in his words, “future thinkers and leaders across diverse fields — from science and economics to the humanities and beyond — who can reimagine the nation’s future and emerge as catalysts for meaningful change.” The OPP is proud to partner with him in seeking to realize this vision.

The OPP hopes that the Interloop Oxford Graduate Scholars will embody a strong commitment to public service, leadership, and social responsibility, and will go on to open doors and create opportunities for others in their communities and beyond. We are looking for individuals who can dream, inspire others, and have empathy for the downtrodden.

The Oxford Pakistan Programme is proud to celebrate the unveiling of Malala Yousafzai’s portrait at Lady Margaret Hall. This tribute is a permanent recognition of Pakistani excellence at the University of Oxford and ensures that this remains an enduring part of Oxford’s story.

Through her partnership with the OPP, Malala has directly supported our mission by opening Oxford’s doors to talented Pakistani women scholars.

The portrait was commissioned with the support of OPP donor Mr Hamid Ismail and we are grateful to him for his support and vision.

We also congratulate artist Isabella Watling and the university community for this milestone.

Today we concluded a pivotal session on navigating admissions and securing funding for the University of Oxford. This workshop served as a definitive guide for aspiring scholars from Pakistan, with a special focus on expanding access through fully funded collaborations for students from Balochistan, Sindh, and South Punjab.

During the session, we unveiled specific opportunities including partnerships with the Balochistan Education Endowment Fund, the Tareen Oxford Scholarship, and the College Education Department, Government of Sindh. Beyond regional support, we also discussed nationwide flagship opportunities such as the Malala Yousafzai Graduate Scholarship and the Weidenfeld-Hoffman Trust awards.

Our panel of Oxford scholars and academic leads broke down the mechanics of a competitive application. We covered the critical differences between a personal statement and an academic Statement of Purpose, the strategy behind selecting the right referees, and the importance of tailoring your CV for specific disciplines. The core message remains that you should not limit yourself; we encourage you to cast a wide net and apply for every scholarship you are eligible for.

For those ready to take the next step, the timeline for the 2026 cycle is now set. The OPP scholarship portal will officially open on 15 March 2026, with a submission deadline of 15 April 2026. We advise using this time to prepare your documentation and refine your academic narrative.

If you missed the live broadcast, the full recording is available now on our YouTube channel. We highly recommend watching the complete session as it includes a detailed Q&A that addresses common concerns regarding eligibility and course selection. For any further specific inquiries not covered in the recording, please feel free to reach out to our team.
