On the occasion of Syed Babar Ali’s 100th year, the Oxford Pakistan Programme, in collaboration with LUMS , is pleased to launch the OPP–Syed Babar Ali Fellowship, an initiative dedicated to fostering academic exchange, scholarship and intellectual engagement between Oxford and Pakistan.
We are delighted to welcome the Fellowship’s inaugural fellow, Professor Frank Griffel, Professor of Abrahamic Philosophy at the University of Oxford, for a lecture hosted in collaboration with the Mushtaq Ahmad Gurmani School of Humanities and Social Sciences at LUMS and the Colloquium in the Study of Religion.
Professor Griffel’s lecture, “Philosophy in Islam’s Post-Classical Period: Similarities and Differences to Classical Islamic Philosophy,” will explore the development of philosophy in Islam beyond the classical period, with particular attention to questions of continuity, transformation, and the relationship between classical and post-classical intellectual traditions.
The event reflects OPP’s wider commitment to strengthening academic exchange between and , supporting rigorous scholarship, and creating opportunities for students, researchers, and wider academic communities to engage with leading scholars and important intellectual debates.
