Recently cadets from across Thames Valley Wing RAF Air Cadets attended a Station Visit at RAF Brize Norton with a focus on careers in the Royal Air Force. The cadets explored one of the latest RAF airframes (which one? guesses in the comments!), had a fascinating talk about the great benefits of a career in the RAF as well as visits to the fire and police dog sections. An excellent day was had by all!

Recently cadets and staff from 2210 (Cowley) Sqn and a special guest from 150 (City of Oxford) Squadron of Thames Valley Wing RAF Air Cadets visited Rewley Road fire station of the Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue Service. The cadets were shown the equipment and facilities by the station staff and even managed some air time!

Recently cadets from 2507 - Bicester Squadron Air Cadets and 2210 (Cowley) Sqn of the Thames Valley Wing RAF Air Cadets in the Royal Air Force Air Cadets undertook a day of navigation training. Cadets put into practice their theoretical map reading training and completed a substantial circular walk around South Oxfordshire. By the end of the day each cadet was able to brief the team confidently about how to get to the next location stating the direction, distance, duration, description and dangers involved in getting there. We even picked up a new recruit!

Recently cadets from 150 (City of Oxford) Squadron and 2210 (Cowley) Sqn of the Royal Air Force Air Cadets in Thames Valley Wing RAF Air Cadets joined the Littlemore Litter Pick. We helped clean up the community and even gave the front our unit a spruce up! Good deeds always get rewarded and this time it was delicious cake in the Village Hall.

Pancake Day came a little early to 2210 (Cowley) Sqn of the Royal Air Force Air Cadets. Using our basic camping stoves (and maybe a slightly more advanced system by the staff!) the Cdts turned basic ingredients into delightful pancakes. The Cdts also showed their creativity with the toppings, cheese and blueberries anyone!?

Today is ATC Sunday and this year it celebrates 85 years of the the :Royal Air Force Air Cadets. Cadets from 2210 (Cowley) Sqn and 150 (City of Oxford) Squadron attended the regular church service at St Mary and St Nicholas, Littlemore where the Chaplain of 2210 (Cowley) Sqn is the vicar. It was a wonderful service and we all enjoyed refreshments at the end. Happy Birthday to us!

Recently cadets from 2210 (Cowley) Sqn and 2370 Denham Squadron of Thames Valley Wing RAF Air Cadets attended Air Experience Flying at RAF Benson. Despite the bad weather most of the cadets got to fly and we even saw some of the other airframes that train at RAF Benson!

As part of the Thames Valley Wing RAF Air Cadets Oxfordshire County Training Weekend cadets undertook the Bronze Leadership Course at 2121 (Abingdon) Sqn of the Royal Air Force Air Cadets. This training course involved learning about the need for leadership, different leadership styles and approaches, meeting the needs of the team, task and individual and how to effectively communicate with different audiences. The cadets then had the opportunity to put these new skills into practice during practical assessments designed to measure their ability to lead a team in challenging, unknown scenarios. What comes after Bronze Leadership? Silver Leadership!

Recently cadets and staff from across Oxfordshire County in Thames Valley Wing RAF Air Cadets participated in an air rifle Initial Weapons Training day followed by Live Fire Marksmanship Training at 966 Wallingford Squadron Royal Air Force Air Cadets. Cadets learnt how to safely handle the air rifle and then put those skills into practice by applying the marksmanship principles to achieve their first shooting award. Air rifle target shooting in the Royal Air Force Air Cadets is an excellent activity for cadets as it helps promote self-discipline, hand-eye coordination and the gives the young person a great sense of achievement when they begin to master the activity. Here's to more shooting in the future!
