Diolch yn fawr / Thank you for all your responses to the survey for the old school site.

Over 150 people have responded with a resounding majority wanting to keep the public recreation space and playing field.

3 top uses for the buildings as a community hub were:
- Cafe & Events
- Learning Hub
- Youth Group

The next most popular were Community Shop and Arts & Crafts workshops.

Additional suggestions included:
- bike and walking trails,
- nature reserve,
- library,
- toddler Nursery,
- Seniors meeting place & lunches,
- Food Hub and
- Share and Hire equipment

With all your responses and comments we are demonstrating a community-led strategy, which can be included in an Expression of Interest for a Community Asset Transfer and form part of a "Place Plan" that identifies local, specific details and village needs.

This includes the current playing field, old school buildings and surrounding land.

Powys CC have written to us to let us know that the "Schools Transformation Team" are aiming to declare the site surplus in July 2026.

The provision of a separate water supply to the memorial hall must be undertaken before this can happen.

Then Powys CC services will be given the opportunity to express an interest in the site during a mandatory 3 week period.

If no service expresses an interest then our request will be considered further, and if agreed, we would then complete and submit the Powys CC Expression of Interest document.

This document includes the use by the community. We will be asking for your feedback on this.

The Strategic Property Team are aware of our request.

In the event of a successful Community Asset Transfer, it is likely this would be on a leasehold basis. Therefore the site remains in the ownership of Powys CC.

We have asked Llansilin Community Council to register the public green space - the playing field and play park area that has been in use publicly by the village for over 50 years.

The Business Development Officer from PAVO advised on this course of action.

Again, if the green space is registered it remains in the ownership of Powys CC.

We have received an acknowledgement from the Council confirming receipt of our request for a Community Asset Transfer and advising they will get back to us with next steps.

We have lots of ideas about how the community space - indoor and outdoor - could be used and will be asking how you would like to engage with it.

It will really help if we can get as many people as possible replying to surveys and polls.

The gates on the fence that was erected by the council are padlocked, but we can still enter the recreational space - our only green space in the village - via the play park.

This space has been used publicly for walks, play and recreation for over 25 years and we aim to secure it for the benefit of the village for the future 💚

We are at Stage 1 - Pre Application and have submitted a request to Powys County Council to secure the site and submit an Expression of Interest for a Community Asset Transfer to secure the site.

We await their response!
