A big thanks to all the volunteers who helped at our beautiful garden at Bryntysilio Outdoor Education Centre yesterday. What a lot of weeding 10 people can do! We made space for planting beans, courgettes, sweetcorn, leeks and a variety of brassicas. We also had a mighty harvest of broad beans 😊.

If you haven't been before and think you might like to join us next month, please message us.

This month's talk is about a really interesting project to train young people in horticulture in Rhyl. Susan Nicholas, who is leading the project, comes with a wealth of experience to share, so we're really looking forward to the evening.

We loved our talk from Ginny about how useful some or our "weeds" are. Those of us who are tormented by harvest mites were encouraged that there might be a herbal balm that reduces the itching...we're looking forward to putting it to the test!

People have been asking for some advice on how to use foraged foods, so we're pleased to have Ginny Davis giving this talk next Thursday.
Ginny has used herbs for many years to support her family’s health, has worked as a herbal dispensary manager, and is currently studying Plant Spirit Medicine with Pip Waller. She is a musician, writer and experienced adult educator with an MA in Poetics of Imagination from Dartington, and her current work brings together plants, seasonal traditions, creativity and inner well-being through new workshops launching locally and online"

No need to book - just come along a little early for a cuppa.

Many thanks to Dave Elgar for a fascinating talk last night. We covered the pros and cons of springtails and slugs, and we learnt about how different worm varieties live in different but connected layers of the soil to help cycle the nutrients. This was followed by some interesting discussions on the persistence and impact of pesticides and herbicide, making good use of Dave's biochemistry knowledge!

Our next talk should be a fascinating insight into microscopic biodiversity that lives in our soils and drives many of the processes that we rely on for growing. We hope to see you there!

It's Spring in the Garden...

It's spring in the garden but I don't know what to do.
The winter has enabled me to winter
Through a dark and difficult time
But now spring is springing and
I don't know what to do.

I joined February's lovely garden workshops
Tea and chatting and some lovely gentle collaborative learning
Leek seeds, and almanacs
And sadly I missed the sessions on
Weaving a plant support out of willow
And seed sowing and making planting plans

Perhaps that's why I'm at a loss of where to start
And the weather has once again turned
Wet and Windy and dark
So whilst the shoots have started sprouting
And weeds are already running amok
Especially where I failed to get down the cardboard
The fireside is still a more cosy place to flop

I wonder if I were to buddy up with someone
We might just egg each other on
One day in my garden
The next in yours
Bit by bit we can explore and work out what to do
Together...
And before you know it we might have some veggies to eat!

It's spring in the garden and I don't know what to do.

Grow Llangollen brings ideas and information
And company and seed swaps
Potato growing competitions and sauerkraut

Grow Llangollen is a great way for people to come together and learn more about gardening and growing vegetables to eat.

It's spring in the garden and now I do know what to do!

Very greatful to be growing alongside each other, egging each other on, to grow a row, swap seedlings, learn from our mistakes.

Looking forward to this talk on Thursday evening
