🏆Presentation Evening🏆

A few weeks ago, we held our annual presentation evening at Oswestry Cricket Club. It was a brilliant evening, where our cadets had the opportunity to look back at everything 1165 got up to in 2025, aswell as discussing what we hope to do in 2026!

And of course, no presentation evening would be complete without awards, so here’s who walked away with a trophy this year…

Awarded to the cadet who has shown exceptional overall performance, dedication, and conduct over the year

🏆 Best Cadet NCO - Cpl Roberts
Awarded to the NCO who has demonstrated outstanding leadership, discipline, teamwork, and commitment throughout the training year

🏆 Best New Recruit - Cdt Lloyd & Cdt Siminova
Awarded to the cadets who stood out amongst the rest during their time as recruits in Juno flight

🏆 Sportiest Cadet - Cdt Tuer
Awarded to the cadet who has shown outstanding commitment to both representing the squadron in sport and inspiring others to get involved

🏆 Best Shot - FS Beard
Awarded to the cadet who has achieved the highest standard of marksmanship during the training year

Awarded to the cadet who best demonstrated the various key values of the squadron

⭐️Promotion⭐️

It’s that time of year again…. just before we broke up for Christmas, we had 4 fantastic promotions:

💫Cdt - Cpl Davies
Cpl Davies has been working extra hard over the past few months, showing us his dedication and determination. Davies is an excellent addition to our NCO team and we can’t wait to see what he gets up to!

💫Cpl - Sgt Hebson
Sgt Hebson always brightens up the squadron with his enthusiasm and passion for what he does. Hebson is a brilliant addition to our SNCO team, and we hope to continue to see him do amazing things!

💫Cpl - Sgt Mayne
Sgt mayne is truly amazing, diving head first into everything. Running a media team and being a powerhouse when it comes to sports and leadership. Sgt Mayne sure can do it all, and we can’t wait to see her step into her new roles as an SNCO!

💫Sgt - FS Beard
FS Beard is an incredible cadet, always working hard and striving to do the best he can in everything he does. Whether it’s aviation, drill & dress or even a bit of road marching, you can always guarantee he’s giving it his all whilst supporting those around him. Congratulations FS!

Over the past few months these brilliant cadets have shown grit, determination and enthusiasm, truly earning them their chevrons.

💥Do You Want to Make an Impact on Young People’s Lives?💥

We are looking for members of the community to join the squadron as part of our civilian committee!

Our civilian committee is vital to the running of our amazing squadron, and all the awesome things you see our cadets get up to would not be made possible without the background support of our committee.

You require no formal qualifications, and all we need from you is a couple hours of your time every 2 months. So, if you are looking for a way to give back to the community, then joining the 1165 family as a committee member might be the perfect opportunity for you!

A busy evening for 1165sqn on Tuesday.
We were honoured in having senior members of West Mercian Wing Staff attending our Civilian Committee (Civcom )meeting. Wing Chair Ryan Phillips, Wing Treasurer Su Stone & Lead Trustee Marcus Hall were highly impressed by the performance & involvement of our Civcom team, without their vital role our Sqn couldn't continue.
Meanwhile the Cadets were having lessons in drill dress & discipline. Moulding the beret in the photo is one of our new recruits & did an excellent job in creating a superbly moulded head gear.
The Sqn also had a mysterious outbreak of facial fur growth with the cadets demonstrating various "Aviator" interpretations inspired by our CO's very own hairy caterpillar.
If as an adult you would like to help out with a fantastic youth organization by using your skills & contacts to broaden their horizons, then join our Civcom & become a Trustee of the Squadron.
As a Trustee you will also have the opportunity to take part or help out in some of the Squadron activities with only the requirement to attend a handful of times a year for a couple of hours.

1165sqn had the great privilege of meeting with the High Sheriff of Shropshire on Tues evening. This is her inspirational insight of meeting a most important youth organisation. Venture Adventure.

I wish I had been an RAF cadet! When asked what was good about being a cadet the Oswestry Squadron RAF cadets answered friendship , belonging , fun activities , adventures a trade from stress and exam pressure , seeing different places learning lots of different things like first aid …..At a time when youth and sports clubs are closing through lack of funds it is great to see the Cadets doing a fantastic job and thriving !

🫡❤️Remembrance Sunday❤️🫡

Today, our cadets and staff represented the squadron in Oswestry, marching in the Annual Remembrance Sunday Parade and Service.

We took the time to reflect and show our respect towards those who made sacrifices for us, and a brighter future. We marched alongside veterans and other youth organisations with pride and everyone did themselves extremely proud!

Cadets and staff have been working hard in recent weeks to ensure that they were fully prepared and able to represent the squadron to the highest standard, and on such an important day, we couldn't be prouder seeing all their effort pay off. It was also amazing to see so many people in our community coming out to show their support too!

🌟💥Promotion💥🌟

A few weeks ago we saw the well deserved promotion of Cadet Liddiatt to Corporal Liddiatt. Through her time so far in the corps, Liddiatt has never been afraid to get stuck in and make the most of every experience she can, inspiring and encouraging her fellow cadets💫. Her never ending positive attitude and passion for what she does makes the squadron a better place to be, and we couldn’t be prouder of her for this achievement!

From fieldcraft to roadmarching and so much more, Liddiatt shows us her dedication and determination in everything she does. Well done Corporal Liddiatt, we are so proud and can’t wait to see how she progresses over the rest of her cadet career 🤩👏🔥

We currently have space for new recruits 😎.
If you are aged 12+ or year 8 then get in contact, ideally via a parent/guardian before our Friday 3rd October intake evening.
If you want to take part in activities as per the images captured over the last few months on our Sqn page, then now is the ideal time to join. There is so much more to discover beyond these few pictures that will develop knowledge & skills that can set the new recruit up for life, either in the military or civilian life. You will also make friends for life. Separate recruitment is always open to interested adults for Civilian Instructor posts, no military background is required.
