Meet one of our incredible volunteers, whose journey at Stonebridge City Farm & Gardens shows just how powerful community can be ๐Ÿ’š

She first started volunteering with us because she wanted to make a difference in her local community and tackle social isolation. Encouraged by her support worker to try volunteering as a way to come out of her shell, she took that brave first step through our gates โ€“ and we're so glad she did.

Since joining the farm, she says she has made so many friends and that volunteering has improved her life dramatically.

"The farm is a big part of my life."

She would recommend volunteering to anyone, especially people who are autistic, as it provides a welcoming, supportive environment where everyone can feel valued, build confidence, and make meaningful connections.

And when it comes to favourite animals? It's our giant rabbits without hesitation!

๐Ÿฐ "I'd take them home if I could!"

Stories like this remind us that Stonebridge City Farm & Gardens is so much more than a place with animals and gardens. It's a community hub, a safe space, a place for friendship, growth, and belonging. For many people, the farm provides opportunities that can genuinely change lives.

As we look to the future, protecting and supporting the farm has never been more important. The work we do together helps create opportunities for individuals to connect, learn new skills, improve wellbeing, and become part of something bigger than themselves.

Thank you to all our volunteers who make Stonebridge such a special place. โค๏ธ

Over the last few weeks, we have seen a huge surge in young people wanting to volunteer at Stonebridge City Farm. Honestly, it has been one of the most encouraging things we have experienced in a long time! ๐Ÿ’š

At a time when so much public conversation about young people focuses on what is โ€œwrongโ€ with them, we are seeing young people who want purpose, structure, community, experience, connection, and somewhere they feel they matter ๐Ÿฅฐ

Many are nervous when they first contact us. Some have struggled in education, confidence, mental health, or previous environments where they did not feel they fitted in. Yet they are still stepping forward and saying: โ€œI want to contribute.โ€
We are incredibly grateful for the trust that so many young people and families are placing in us.

Stonebridge City Farm & Gardens has always been more than a place to visit. It is a place where people can turn up, take part, learn, build confidence, and belong. Seeing so many young people wanting to be part of that gives us real hope for the future ๐Ÿค—

To every young person who has applied recently: thank you. Even putting yourself forward takes courage. We are currently working through applications carefully and trying to balance placements across the cafรฉ, gardens, shop, maintenance, animals, and wider community support work ๐Ÿ‘จโ€๐ŸŒพ๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€๐Ÿณ๐Ÿ™‹โ€โ™€๏ธ

Unfortunately, we cannot place everyone immediately because space, staffing, and support capacity are limited, but we genuinely appreciate every single person who has reached out ๐Ÿ™Thank you for believing in what this place can be. And thank you to our staff, volunteers, and wider community who continue to make Stonebridge the kind of place young people want to be part of ๐Ÿ’š๐ŸŒฑ

Meet one of our fantastic volunteers! ๐Ÿ’š

They first joined Stonebridge City Farm & Gardens just over a year ago to gain work experience as part of their college course. What began as a placement soon became something they genuinely enjoyed, and they've continued volunteering with us ever since.

Over the past year, they've developed a wide range of practical skills and gained hands-on experience that complements what they're learning at college. ๐Ÿ™ŒVolunteering at the farm has given them the opportunity to apply their knowledge in a real-world setting, helping to build their confidence, independence, and understanding ๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€๐ŸŒพ

One of the things they value most is the support they receive from our team. By working closely with supervisors, they've been able to ask questions, learn new skills, and receive guidance that has helped them grow both personally and professionally. The strong relationships they've built have made a real difference to their learning journey.

When asked what Stonebridge City Farm & Gardens means to them, they said, "It means everything to me." They shared that they have learned so much during their time here, including things they never knew before and have found a place where they feel supported, valued, and connected.

We also asked what their favourite animals is:
"The silkie chickens, they're so fluffy and friendly...most of the time!" ๐Ÿ“๐Ÿ”

We will be opening up applications for working in the barn soon!
