Over the last few weeks, we have seen a huge surge in young people wanting to volunteer at Stonebridge City Farm. Honestly, it has been one of the most encouraging things we have experienced in a long time! ๐
At a time when so much public conversation about young people focuses on what is โwrongโ with them, we are seeing young people who want purpose, structure, community, experience, connection, and somewhere they feel they matter ๐ฅฐ
Many are nervous when they first contact us. Some have struggled in education, confidence, mental health, or previous environments where they did not feel they fitted in. Yet they are still stepping forward and saying: โI want to contribute.โ
We are incredibly grateful for the trust that so many young people and families are placing in us.
Stonebridge City Farm & Gardens has always been more than a place to visit. It is a place where people can turn up, take part, learn, build confidence, and belong. Seeing so many young people wanting to be part of that gives us real hope for the future ๐ค
To every young person who has applied recently: thank you. Even putting yourself forward takes courage. We are currently working through applications carefully and trying to balance placements across the cafรฉ, gardens, shop, maintenance, animals, and wider community support work ๐จโ๐พ๐ฉโ๐ณ๐โโ๏ธ
Unfortunately, we cannot place everyone immediately because space, staffing, and support capacity are limited, but we genuinely appreciate every single person who has reached out ๐Thank you for believing in what this place can be. And thank you to our staff, volunteers, and wider community who continue to make Stonebridge the kind of place young people want to be part of ๐๐ฑ
