Beach Wheelchairs We are a charity that provide beach wheelchairs for free hire from the Beach Hut in North Berwick Harbour, East Lothian. Charity providing beach wheelchair hire

We have a hoist and we have a powered chair too. We also have chairs available at Portobello and the Seton Sands Caravan Park.

Some pics from a recent trip by Oaklands school! They were such a lovely bunch and left us some brilliant feedback. “There were smiles, laughter, and plenty of opportunities to explore, discover and enjoy the natural environment. From feeling the sand beneath their wheels while doing donuts and making patterns in the sand to listening to the waves and getting close to the sea, it was truly an inclusive experience that created lasting memories for everyone involved.”

Hi everyone, just a little post to introduce myself here. I’m Emily and I’ll be the Beach Hut Attendant in North Berwick for the summer! This means I’ll be carrying out most of the hires and managing bookings. I’ll have my lovely dog down with me most days (most likely napping the whole day) I can’t wait to get started and hoping for a beautiful summer this year 😊

The Market on the Green team had a fun (and dog-tastic) road trip yesterday to meet up with our May charity partner Beach Wheelchairs Anyone who came along to the market in May will know how busy the Beach wheelchair stall was with the tombola being a particularly favourite with our younger visitors! We were delighted to be able to hand over £500 from the May market which, added to their own fundraising and donations from stallholders gave them a total of just over £800 from the May event! 🤩
The sun shone and we were able to get some insight into how the funds raised will be used. Mel explained to us how the wheelchairs increase accessibility to the beach and shore line but went on to describe how trips could be made more comfortable through the use of chair accessories such as heated blankets and lateral supports. These accessories also help to extend the season for wheelchair hires and enable chairs to be used when the weather is less than ideal. The funds from May will go towards the purchase of these accessories and hopefully help to make cold days a little cosier for visitors. We are so pleased to support this local charity in their incredible work and thank everyone who attended the market in any capacity as it would not be possible without you 😊

🌟 A huge thank you to Kate, Ellie and Amy from the
Direlton Market on the Green for their incredibly generous donation of £500 to Beach Wheelchairs following their May market.

We were honoured to be chosen as the beneficiaries of funds raised by the stallholders and market community. As demand for our service continues to grow year on year, and running costs increase, support like this makes a real difference and helps us continue providing access to our beautiful coastline for everyone.

The donation will go towards much-needed accessories for our beach wheelchairs, including heated blankets, lateral supports and other equipment that will further enhance comfort and the overall customer experience.

Thank you to everyone who attended the market, supported the stallholders and helped make this donation possible, and to Dirleton Market for nominating Beach Wheelchairs. Your support is genuinely appreciated and will have a lasting impact. ♿🏖️

☔️ A little beach wheelchair update for this rainy day!

May was an absolute bumper month for us, with 107 beach wheelchair hires and 112 hires in total when our Seaton Sands bookings are included.

We’re delighted to be seeing year-on-year growth, with increasing demand for both our service and our beach wheelchairs. It’s fantastic to know that more people are getting the opportunity to enjoy our beaches.

None of this would be possible without our amazing volunteers, who make the service happen every day. Thank you for everything you do!

Now let’s hope June brings a little more sunshine so we can help even more people get out and enjoy the coast. 🌊☀️♿️
