The Pryce Jones Legacy Exhibition tells the story of a humble drapers apprentice who dreamed big and aspired to promote Newtown across the British Empire for over 100 years Pryce Jones mail order business thrived and his legacy lives on today. Check Library Website for opening times free entry.

Welsh Pioneer of Mail Order Pryce Jones became a brand and trademark for Newtown Powys Mid Wales. He was Knighted by Queen Victoria Sir Pryce Pryce-Jones legacy and history will be shared through our Pryce Jones Legacy Free Entry Exhibition at Newtown Library Powys starting from 2nd May - 30th May 2026. NPTC Newtown Fashion & Textile Academy students will be exhibiting their 'being inspired by Pryce Jones' textile designs for the Pryce Jones Legacy Exhibition. Thank you Summer for setting up the college Pryce Jones project today.

Pryce Jones employed thousands of Newtonian's and local communities across Mid Wales. As well as the Pryce Jones Royal Welsh Warehouse being the largest department store in Mid Wales there was a Pryce Jones Flannel & Garment factory, Pryce Jones Laundry and Woolen Flannel Mills at Welshpool, Llanidloes and Newtown. This exhibition will be at Newtown Library from the 2nd May 2026 for a month and will share Pryce Jones History story and Newtown College Fashion & Textile Academy 'Being inspire Pryce Jones' textile legacy project which will also be on display. Robert Owen Statue was unveiling in Newtown 70 years ago today after several attempts by the Co-operative Movement and Co-op Union since the death of Robert Owen to raise this statue in honor of this great co-operator and social reformer who pioneered infant education and establishing the first infant school in New Lanark Mill which he owned back in 1816.
