2 hedgehogs being released tonight, 2 still on treatment and 18 hoglets all moved to our new pod cages in the hospital. They seem to love them. Just the newbie in zoo zone with heatpad. All the others are over 100 grams. Sorry for long post.
In about a month we will be looking for the perfect gardens for some of them. They may still be as siblings, so 2 or 3 .
Not near a road, no badgers near, access out of your garden but not to a neighbours garden that does not fulfil the criteria below.
No slug pellets/ rat poisen.
Lots of shrubs, bushes, hedges, areas of wildness, where you don t mow of strim. No dogs, as they are hoglets unless your dog has hogs in the garden and does not bother with them.
No pond without access out
No cattlegrid that they can t get out.
No netting from goals or veg/ fruit netting.
No rubbish bags or dangerous items.
Dug areas in the garden from borders or veg compost bins, old wood pile for beatles ect.
You will need to buy or make a suitable hedgehog house and make or buy a feeding station. (We sell both)
You also need to be around to feed each evening and several low dishes of fresh water.
If your going away then someone needs to be doing this because, if the temp stays hot, there would not be much food source for them to dig or find. Once they ve got to know your garden, and know where to look for what they need, they will slow down eating cat biscuits/hog bites/ meaty cat or dog food.
We d love to hear from you if you can comply with most of the above, you can have some hoglets, I need to see your garden from all angles, and where you think you will put a house. I have spoken with some folk but please can ALL who would be able to give a hog a home this year, ring me, and send pics and if I agree, I ll put you on the list.16- 20 mile radius only, they get stressed going too far in a car.
Sorry this is long but I have to be so careful where they go to give them the best chance.
