Stokeinteignhead Community Shop

Stokeinteignhead Community Shop A lively not for profit village shop, run by locals for locals & managed by Jen However, villages decided that if possible, they wanted their shop back!

A short history: In 2008 the long standing and popular village shop and post office closed its doors for the last time after having provided a much valued service to the community since 1935. So, a small a working party formed and immediately began the task of establishing a local community co-operative to re-open and run the shop on a "not for profit" basis. Our grand opening was held in August 2

009 and since then we have gone from strength to strength. Volunteers from the village itself and surrounding area help to run the shop with the invaluable assistance and guidance of our one paid employee - Sally, the shop manager. The hard work and success of the project was recognised in 2011 when the shop won the Devon County Agricultural Associations' "Prince of Wales Award for community organisations who are looking to improve the lives of others through sustainable initiatives". The presentation took place in May, at the Devon County Show. In 2014 the shop won again coming runner up in the national Plunket Foundation awards beating some 300 other contestants.
