A LONG, but important, UPDATE:
Last night we held our Annual General Meeting and we agreed to be transparent about some behind the scenes details. We are thrilled to report that our 2025 year made a profit of £78. A tiny amount for the effort, but the first profit since huge losses in 2020 and 2021. This is thanks to a record year of event attendance, your purchases of raffle tickets, and increasing our advertising prices.
Unavoidable costs like insurance, PA hire, printing, rates, safety materials and training - all the hidden stuff - continue to rise. We have many organisations, friends and talented people who donate time, effort, expertise and boat fuel for free. The Regatta would not exist without these individuals to whom we are very grateful. Thanks to them our aim to keep our events free for under 16s to enter will continue!
We whole-heartedly show solidarity to our fellow Teignmouth event organisers Teignmouth Airshow and Teignmouth Community Carnival. We are in awe of what you achieve and how you also support us. It is sad that the Airshow will not take place this year - but not through any fault of the committee. The post that spoke of ‘volunteer fatigue’ really hit home for us and it is super hard and complex to run safe and inclusive events for a town - when so much of the organising and fundraising is hugely time consuming unpaid labour being done by volunteers around their day jobs, caring responsibilities and hobbies. Sometimes no matter how hard you work and how many hours you put in, things can only happen if others are also pulling in the same direction. We wish the new Carnival team the very best of luck and of course are here for advice and hints and tips if needed. We aim to be part of the procession again and look forward to joining in with your events.
As usual, many Regatta events are tide dependent but we hope to confirm our exact event dates for 2026 in the next few weeks. We have decided not to expand our programme this year and stick to what we know and are good at, with our small but mighty committee. We have a cracking idea that includes the Lido and we watch with expectation how the SAVE THE LIDO group are working hard to preserve this amazing feature for our town.
Thank you to all of you who show up and support us. We are here for free family fun - but those of you reading this are the adults who pay for our events!
See you all in August!
