A sad farewell to our LDSC Lead Claire, and volunteers Di & Lorraine.

Claire is off to a full time role and we wish her all the best in her new venture.

A huge thank you for all your hard work.

We are looking for people with a learning disability who would like to join our Oliver McGowan Tier 2 team.

The role involves talking to a group of approximately 30 health care & social care staff about your lived experience.

If you are interested or know of anyone who may be suitable, please get in touch.

Full training is provided for this role and support throughout.

OPEN DAYS
We are looking to recruit some new students to attend our fun, friendly and supportive learning groups 👀
We have two open days coming up which will be held on the following dates:
🗓️Monday 17th August, 🕐 1-3
🗓️Wednesday 19th August, 🕙 10-12
These will be held at the Learning Disability Support Centre, 1-2 Bernard Way, Newport, PO30 5YL.
They will be the perfect opportunity to meet staff, have a look around the building and see what we have on offer.
Prospective students are welcome to come independently, with family, friends or support staff. Everyone is welcome 🤗 Please share this post with anyone you think may be interested in coming to visit.

Yesterday we had a visit from the lovely Anna who is a Sexual Health Promotion Practitioner based at St Mary’s Hospital. She spoke to us about how to stay safe when engaging in s*xual activities, we also spoke about the dangers around drink and drugs. We had the opportunity to have a look at different forms of contraception and ask any questions we had around the topic. Anna was very supportive, helpful and non judgemental. We are looking forward to welcoming her back to our group very soon. All students were extremely appropriate and mature during these discussions and we hope by having these sessions it will begin to remove the awkwardness and embarrassment when talking about s*x.
