The Poppy Appeal is underway!

Our Junior Sea Cadets gave up their Monday to volunteer their time in support of this year’s Poppy Appeal.

Despite the wet weather, our cadets were out in the community distributing poppies and collecting donations, showing real commitment to this important cause.

Our cadets demonstrated the Sea Cadets values of Respect and Commitment, alongside plenty of enthusiasm as they represented our unit in the community.

A big well done to all involved — we’re very proud of you!

🔥 Our Senior Junior Cadets had a great evening getting to grips with ration packs and cooking over outdoor fires! A good chance to build practical skills, work together and enjoy some time outdoors.

Last night we held our annual Pickle Night 2026 in memory of Lt/Cdr (SCC) Andy Searles RNR.

Rooted in naval tradition and inspired by HMS Pickle, Pickle Night is an evening of food, games and fundraising, celebrating those who have served and the legacy they leave behind.

It was fantastic to welcome people from across the district, with everyone embracing the spirit of the evening and helping create a memorable night of fun, friendship and camaraderie.

Thank you to everyone who attended, especially CPO Kelly for organising the event, PO Aeron for preparing a delicious three-course feast, and UMT member Jacqui for running the raffle!

Thanks to everyone’s generosity, we raised an amazing £250 for Cancer Research UK. It was a wonderful evening, a great cause and a fitting tribute to Andy

National Cadets Week - Message from the Officer in Charge

“This week is a good opportunity to take a moment and recognise what everyone at Newbury Sea Cadets has achieved over the past year.

To our cadets — the commitment you continue to show, whether that’s on parade nights, offshore weeks, boating weekends, day trips or supporting activities in the community, is fantastic. Seeing your confidence, skills and experience develop is something to be really proud of.

And to our volunteers & parents — thank you. The countless hours you give, often behind the scenes, are what make these opportunities possible and allow our cadets to achieve so much.

There’s a lot to celebrate, and this collage is just a small snapshot of it.

Our Juniors have been putting in the hard work with some drill practice, and we couldn’t be prouder of them all! 👏

Their commitment, teamwork and determination really shone through — and we were especially impressed to hear them confidently calling out their numbers!

NEWBURY SEA CADETS – Annual General Meeting

The 2026 AGM will be held in person at Newbury Sea Cadets, 3 Craven Dene, London Rd, Newbury RG14 2AY. Please see the official notice of the meeting, under Annex A, below.

The AGM will begin at 19:30 on Monday 19th October 2026.

We are seeking parents, supporters and others to stand for election to, or otherwise support, the Unit Management Team (UMT).

If you are interested in joining or supporting the UMT, please complete the Nomination Form, available by email.

Please note, if you have Any Other Business (AOB) they will only be considered by voting members if submitted in writing to the Chair (Mark Wigmore) by email to [email protected]. Please use “AOB” as the subject and submit items at least 48 hours in advance of the meeting.

Tea, coffee and cakes will be served after the AGM. Please let me know, by replying this email:

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that the Annual General Meeting (AGM) of Newbury Sea Cadet unit (TS Victory) will be held at the 3 Craven Dene, London Rd, Newbury RG14 2AY at 1930 on Monday 19th October 2026 to conduct the following business.

All newly elected UMT trustees will be required to complete a disclosure application, complete a P1 form – application to join Sea Cadets which includes a Trustee Declaration indicating that they know of no reason why they cannot become a charity trustee, complete three online e-learning courses within two months. They will also be required to submit to a DBS check (at the expense of MSSC).

🇬🇧 Battle of Britain – 86th Anniversary 🇬🇧

This morning, Newbury Sea Cadets had the honour of attending the Battle of Britain commemoration, alongside Basingstoke Sea Cadets.

It was a lovely morning of remembrance alongside Tadley Church and the Royal Air Force Air Cadets, paying our respects to those who served and sacrificed.

Our cadets represented the unit with pride and respect. ⚓🇬🇧

We will remember them.

🚨 NEW APPOINTMENT ALERT 🚨

We would formally like to congratulate CI Searles on her new appointment as Junior Training Officer (JTO) for Newbury Sea Cadets. ⚓️

We are delighted to have CI Searles taking on this important role and look forward to seeing her work with and support our Junior Cadets as they continue their journey through the Sea Cadets.

We would also like to say a huge thank you to PO (SCC) Slade, our outgoing Junior Training Officer, for his dedication and commitment to the role over the past six years. His hard work and support have made a real difference to many of our Junior Cadets during this time, and we are incredibly grateful for everything he has done.

🌊 Another busy and successful weekend of training for Newbury Sea Cadets! 🌊

This weekend, a number of our cadets and staff attended Berkshire District Sea Cadets DMACT at Henley, taking part in a fantastic range of training opportunities.

From rowing through to Basic Peer Educator, our cadets had the opportunity to develop new skills, gain experience and challenge themselves in different areas.

For some of our more senior cadets, completing the Basic Peer Educator course is an important step in their development as they continue to build their confidence and leadership skills, with aspirations of progressing towards Leading Cadet later this year.

A big well done to everyone who attended and represented Newbury Sea Cadets so brilliantly! ⚓
