✨ Fact of the day ✨

105 years ago on the 11 November 1919, exactly one year after the end of World War I, the first official two-minute silence was observed in London and across the UK. King George V had called for the nation to pause and reflect at 11:00 a.m., the exact time the Armistice was signed in 1918.

As Big Ben struck the hour, the bustling streets of London fell silent. Trains stopped, people stood still, and a profound hush blanketed the city. This simple, unified act allowed everyone from the crowds in Whitehall to those in quiet villages across the country to pay their respects to those who had made the ultimate sacrifice for peace. The tradition continues today, reminding us each year of the courage and sacrifice of all those who serve.

Today events are taking place across the UK to mark Armistice Day, members of our branch will again be at the war memorial in Nantwich to commemorate the end of the Great War. Later on the team will also attend Richmond Villages in Nantwich to support their service also.

"They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old,
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun, and in the morning,
We will remember them."

'When You Go Home, Tell Them Of Us And Say,
For Your Tomorrow, We Gave Our Today.'

✨ Fact of the day ✨

Next year’s Festival of Remembrance will be held on Saturday 8 November 2025. To be eligible to purchase tickets, you must be a member of the Royal British Legion (RBL).

This evening, serving members of His Majesty's Armed Forces and veterans joined millions to watch this year's Festival of Remembrance at the Royal Albert Hall. Many gathered with us in commemorating the 80th anniversary of key WWII battles such as D-Day, marking a decade since UK forces ended combat operations in Afghanistan, and paying tribute to the children of those who serve in the Armed Forces.

Tomorrow, at 11:00, millions will observe a solemn silence, pausing to remember fallen family members, colleagues, and those who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our country. This moment of reflection honours not only those who gave their lives for our freedom but also those who continue to serve, ensuring we can live the lives we do today. It is a powerful reminder of the debt we owe to the generations that have served before us and the importance of safeguarding the values they fought to protect.

🇬🇧 At the going down of the sun, and in the morning, We will remember them. 🇬🇧

✨ Fact of the Day: The Last Post ✨

The Last Post is a deeply symbolic bugle call, traditionally played at military funerals, remembrance services, and ceremonies marking the end of the day. In British military tradition, dating back to the 18th century, it signifies the end of a soldier’s day, but more poignantly, it now serves as a tribute to those who have died in service.

This year marks the 10th anniversary of the withdrawal from Afghanistan, and many Afghan veterans will remember hearing the haunting sound of the Last Post during the repatriation ceremonies, as the 457 bodies were loaded onto RAF C-17 aircraft for their final journey home or at their military funerals and most commonly, Remembrance Sunday, when it unites the nation in solemn tribute. The Last Post evokes powerful emotions for serving personnel, veterans, and families alike, symbolising both loss and the enduring legacy of those who served.

🇬🇧 At the going down of the sun, we will remember them. 🇬🇧

✨ Fact of the Day ✨

Did you know that military bands have played a crucial role in parading troops for centuries? They serve many functions, including maintaining tradition, keeping troops in step and historically they were used to boost the morale of soldiers as they advanced into battle.

The Band & Drums of the Cheshire Constabulary have been steadfast supporters of our branch for many years. They raise vital funds through the annual remembrance concert evening held at Nantwich Civic Hall, this took place on Saturday, they also assist us during the remembrance service on Remembrance Sunday. This year, they will be leading our parade and performing the Last Post, and we truly appreciate their commitment to helping us to honour our fallen heroes while also raising vital funds for military veterans.

Thank you for your continued support! 🎶✨
