📚💙 Dyslexia Awareness Week | 5–11 October 💙📚

This one feels particularly important to us at Once Upon a Page.

Lorelei created the club because she loves books and wanted other children to experience that same love of reading — but we also know that reading doesn’t look the same for every child.

Some children devour books. Some listen to audiobooks. Some need extra time, patience or a different approach altogether. And for children with dyslexia, something as simple as opening a book can sometimes feel much harder than people realise.
That’s why it’s so important that children are given the time, support and freedom to find the way of reading that works best for them. ❤️

A love of stories can begin in so many different ways.

There is a book — and a way of reading — for everyone. 📖✨

We love Room on the Broom at Once Upon a Page, so we couldn’t resist sharing this. It’s amazing to think it’s been 25 years since it was first published! 📚💜

Such a brilliant story to enjoy again and again.

📚 Another lovely morning at Once Upon a Page! 📚

We had such a nice story session today, with plenty of brilliant books to choose from — and of course we had to make room for some Gruffalo favourites! 💚🐾

Today’s reads included The Gruffalo, The Gruffalo’s Child, Gruffalo Granny, Ten Delicious Teachers, Tales from Acorn Wood: Spring and Kyloe the Coo. 🐮📖

We especially loved being able to include Kyloe the Coo by local authorlindawhipp — it’s always wonderful to celebrate stories created a little closer to home. ❤️

A big thank you to everyone who came along, listened, joined in and helped make the morning so enjoyable.

BBC 500 Words is back, and we’d love to see some of our Once Upon a Page readers have a go. 💚

It’s all about imagination and creativity — not perfect spelling or grammar.

If your little reader loves making up stories, this could be perfect for them! ✨

🚨 BBC 500 Words opens for submissions on Tuesday 29th September at 8am! 🚨

The UK’s biggest children’s story-writing competition is back - inviting young storytellers to write the kind of story they would love to read. No pressure around spelling, grammar or punctuation - it’s all about creativity! Plus, there are loads of prizes to be won!

🕒 Entry deadline: Friday 6th November at 9pm

Remember, every story submitted is in with chance of winning 500 books for their school as well as a literacy wall art.
