Climate resilience cannot be achieved through policy alone—it requires communities to be informed, involved and empowered.
The Climate Resilience Tour, delivered in partnership between May Project Gardens , Merton Council and BAME Voice, was created to ensure that residents from underrepresented communities are not only part of the conversation on climate change, but are active participants in shaping local solutions.
Through creative workshops, nature-based activities and community engagement, participants explored how climate change affects their daily lives while developing the knowledge, skills and confidence to take action.
Young people have played a central role throughout the project, using poetry and artwork to express their perspectives on climate change, the future they want to see, and why action cannot wait.
These creative outputs have opened important conversations about environmental justice, green spaces and the role communities
can play in creating healthier neighbourhoods.
Alongside community voices, the project has brought together local organisations and partners to strengthen collaboration and build more connected approaches to climate resilience across the borough.
Climate change is already affecting our communities through extreme heat, flooding, biodiversity loss and air quality. Building resilience means investing not only in infrastructure and green spaces, but in people—their knowledge, ideas and leadership.
When communities are trusted to lead, climate action becomes more inclusive, more relevant and ultimately more impactful.
