In England, prescription charges are not exempt for transplant medications, meaning some kidney transplant patients are required to pay prescription charges for their vital post-transplant medication.

There is an e-petition calling for a change to the medical exemption criteria for post-transplant medication. If you are affected by prescription charges, you may wish to consider signing the e-petition.

If the petition reaches 10,000 signatures, the Government will respond. If it reaches 100,000 signatures, it will be considered for debate in Parliament.

Please note that this e-petition is not run by NEKPA or the National Kidney Federation. However, it is something we support, and we wanted to make you aware of it should you wish to sign or share it. There is no expectation for you to support or sign the petition if you do not wish to.

Update the medical exemption criteria to make all post-transplant maintenance medications free on the NHS in England, ending the geographical inequality with the rest of the UK and preventing costly graft failures.

Today was the Renal Education Event at James Cook University Hospital which was the best attended to date. Terry, Margaret, Brian and Alastair manned the stand and spoke with over 50 renal patients who all needed advice/information.
