"You're a carer and that's it. You lose all that."

This Carers Week, Sharon shares the reality of trying to make time for herself while caring for her husband Chris, who lives with young-onset dementia.

As well as supporting Chris, Sharon helps care for her mum, who has also been diagnosed with dementia, while supporting her children and managing the challenges that come with caring around the clock.

For many carers, finding time for themselves can feel impossible. Alongside the practical responsibilities, there can also be a sense of grief as relationships change and life looks very different from what it once did.

Thank you, Sharon, for sharing your experience so openly. You are a hero β™₯️

They spend their time making sure everyone else feels welcomed, supported and valued. Last month, it was their turn to be recognised. πŸ‘‘πŸ’œ

Huge congratulations to our wonderful volunteers, Susan and Janet, who recently attended a King's Garden Party at Buckingham Palace after being nominated by Together Dementia Support in recognition of their years of dedication to our North Manchester Friendship & Activity Group.

For years, they've been the heart of the group – welcoming members, supporting activities, and helping create the warm community that means so much to so many people.

This special invitation was a fitting tribute to two volunteers who give so much of their time, kindness and energy to supporting people living with dementia and carers.

"What is it really like caring for someone with young-onset dementia?"

This Carers Week, we're sharing the stories of carers in our community.

In our first video, Sharon talks about caring for her husband Chris, who lives with young-onset dementia, while raising their six children. She shares some of the challenges her family faces and the realities of caring day-to-day. Including the struggles of hospital stays when the children don't feel comfortable visiting.

Carers play a vital role, often putting the needs of others before their own. This week, we're celebrating carers, recognising their contribution, and making sure their voices are heard.

Thank you, Sharon, for sharing your story with us. β™₯️

We've reached the end of Volunteer's Week - with one last group of volunteers to celebrate...our Together in Song Choir!

Meeting monthly, our choir volunteers gather with members and carers to create a joyful noises together! For most of us, music and singing boosts our mood - releasing those feel-good hormones. It can help us feel calm, connected and less stressed. Musical memory in the brain can remain active even as other parts, like speech and language, decline. Our choir volunteers help us provide all these benefits, and more.

And we're always looking for new choir members - whether you're a carer, volunteer, or somebody living with dementia. We meet on the first Saturday of every month, in St Edmund's Church Hall, Alexandra Road, M16 8EZ at 2pm! Get in touch!

πŸ“£ This Volunteer's Week, we want to shine a light on all the work the amazing volunteers do.

Not all of our volunteering happens in groups – some of it happens quietly, out of the spotlight, behind the scenes. Our small but dedicated team of Together at Home volunteers – Cath, Mary, Cherry, Bernadette, Hazel and Ammara – share companionship and creative and social activities with one of our members with dementia, through weekly or fortnightly visits at that person’s home. Over the years that TAH has been running, we’ve seen the incredible positive impact that these 1:1 relationships have on our members, carers and volunteers themselves.

Thank you for all you do πŸ’š

πŸ’™ What a day for Team TDS! πŸ’™

On Sunday, our incredible runners and walkers took on the Great Manchester Run 10K and Half Marathon to support Together Dementia Support.

Every mile covered and every pound raised will help local people living with dementia and their carers access the support, friendship and activities they need.

Together, Team TDS has raised an amazing Β£9,031 (including Gift Aid) – enough to fund almost an entire week of our services.

To everyone who ran, walked, cheered, donated and supported from the sidelines: thank you. We're so proud of you all.

πŸ‘ Give our team some love in the comments!

πŸ“£ Volunteer's Week is nearly over, but we're not done yet!

Our small but mighty North Manchester volunteers ensure that every week at TDS ends with style and fun. Up in Crumpsall, our volunteers get stuck in to whatever the group has in store, whether it’s singing along during choir sessions, helping to prepare and serve hot lunches, or shaking their own pair of maracas with abandon during music cafes. Our two longest standing volunteers at North Manchester, Janet and Susan, were recently honoured with an invite to the King’s Garden Party at Buckingham Palace, to acknowledge their incredible commitment to their volunteering role.

Thanks for all you do πŸ’š

Isn’t it encouraging that these former football players have a great concern about dementia and are helping us to support local people affected by it. We’re really grateful!

🏌 We're delighted to confirm that the Tony Book Cup is taking place on Sunday 27th September at High Legh Park Golf & Country Club.

β›³ This golf tournament, organised by the Manchester City Official Supporters Club, was a huge success last year, and those that missed out asked us to give you a timely reminder...so here it is!

πŸ† Plenty of Once A Blue Man City members will be taking part and will be paying tribute to a great player, boss and youth team coach.

πŸ‘‡ Tickets flew out last year, so secure your place NOW! All details below...
