40F (Maidstone) Squadron - RAFAC is based in Maidstone, Kent 40F (Maidstone) Sqn is a Squadron within the Royal Air Force Air Cadets, based in Maidstone.

We parade on Mondays & Wednesday evenings. We offer a huge amount of opportunities to young people aged 12-20.

🎉 Congratulations to CWO Callaghan-Jarvis on being appointed as a Lord-Lieutenant's Cadet! 🎖️

CWO Callaghan-Jarvis attended the awards ceremony at Ashford School and was presented with this prestigious award. It recognises the achievement and dedication cadets show to the Corps, and gives them the opportunity to represent the cadet forces at civic and ceremonial occasions alongside the Lord-Lieutenant of Kent.

Well deserved, and you have done the squadron proud! 👏🏆

🎉 A Fantastic Day for 40F (Maidstone) Squadron Air Cadets! ✈️💙

Today, 40F Squadron held its Annual Inspection — a proud occasion celebrating our cadets’ achievements, dedication and hard work in front of their families.

We were honoured to welcome Wg Cdr Turner, Officer Commanding of Kent Wing, as our Reviewing Officer, and Councillor Spooner, Deputy Mayor of Maidstone, as our Guest of Honour. We were also delighted to welcome Sqn Ldr M. Postill, Sector 3 Commander, and his wife, CI C. Postill, both former members of our Squadron staff.

The afternoon began with a welcome from Flt Lt Baranowski, Officer Commanding of 40F, followed by the formal review by Wg Cdr Turner. Our cadets’ achievements were then recognised, with awards presented by Councillor Spooner.

A huge well done to all our cadets on their achievements! Every award and qualification represents hard work, commitment and a willingness to challenge themselves and develop new skills. You should all be incredibly proud! 👏

Our sincere thanks to our Reviewing Officer, Guest of Honour and special guests for joining us, and to all the parents and families for their continued support.

Finally, thank you to our fantastic staff team and volunteers for everything they do to help our cadets learn, lead and thrive.

🎉🥾 Silver DofE Expedition Success for Maidstone Cadets! 🥾🎉

A huge well done to Sgt Bassey, Sgt Herbert-Cogger and Cpl Maftei from 40F (Maidstone) Squadron, who have successfully completed their Silver Duke of Edinburgh’s Award (DofE) walking expedition in the beautiful Ashdown Forest! 👏

Our three cadets joined fellow cadets from 25 (Parkwood), 213 (Rochester) and 1404 (Chatham) Squadrons for this Sector 3 Kent Wing expedition, with eight cadets taking part across two groups.

The expedition challenged the cadets to be self-sufficient, navigate their own routes and put their teamwork, leadership, navigation and campcraft skills to the test. 💪 Carrying their own kit, working together and overcoming challenges along the way, they demonstrated the determination, resilience and independence that the DofE Award is all about.

🌳 The Ashdown Forest also provided plenty of opportunities to discover the area's fascinating history. Famous as the inspiration for the Hundred Acre Wood in Winnie-the-Pooh 🧸🍯, it is also home to the poignant Airman's Grave, offering a chance to reflect on the area's aviation heritage. ✈️

We are incredibly proud of Sgt Bassey, Sgt Herbert-Cogger and Cpl Maftei for their hard work and commitment in completing this important milestone towards their Silver DofE Award.

👏 Congratulations to all eight cadets who completed the expedition, and thank you to the staff who supported them throughout!

Practical Skills in Cadets
At 40F (Maidstone) Squadron, our cadets learn skills that matter well beyond the parade hall.
Our cadets learn potentially life-saving skills at the squadron by learning first aid and putting it to practice with practice scenarios. One of our cadets recently putting this into practice with a real-life scenario where they were able to aid a gentleman in need!

💚 Thank you to the people behind 40F (Maidstone) Squadron and Air Cadets!
Behind every cadet's flying lesson, camp, first aid session and community project is a team of adult volunteers who give up their evenings and weekends to make it happen. Their hard work and dedication does not go unnoticed and today is about celebrating you all.
They teach, mentor, drive minibuses, fill in paperwork, cheer from the sidelines and help young people become more confident. And they do it because they care.
To every one of our volunteers: thank you. We couldn't do any of this without you. 👏

💙 Cadets making a difference,
Our cadets don't just learn new skills, they use them to give back. Over the years, 40F (Maidstone) Squadron cadets have engaged with the community and raised money for various causes:
🏕️ Slept out for The Great Tommy Sleep Out, raising awareness and funds for homeless veterans
💗 Volunteered at Race for Life, supporting Cancer Research UK and fundraised to help support
🇬🇧 Marked Armed Forces Day, honouring those who serve
🥾 Taken on the North Downs Walk, raising money for cancer research
Across these events alone, our cadets have raised around £1000 to help support the various causes.
These are just a few of the many causes we help support and we are always looking to do more. So, if you know of any events that need support, let us know!

🚀 Welcome to !

The Royal Air Force Air Cadets is a uniformed youth organisation giving young people the chance to build confidence, leadership, teamwork and practical life skills.

At 40F (Maidstone) Squadron, we were the first squadron in Kent, formed the very same day as the Air Training Corps – 5th February 1941. Since then, our cadets have been developing their personal skills and engaging with the local community.

None of it would be possible without our adult volunteers, who give their time to create wonderful opportunities for young people.

The Kent Wing Pentathlon is a brilliant annual competition run for Kent Air Cadet units, where cadets compete in typical cadet activities. Wing level events offer so many opportunities and a chance to catch up with friends from other units made on the numerous camps our cadets attend.

Cadets and staff from 40F (Maidstone) Squadron today joined other squadron from across Kent for the Wing Pentathlon competition, consisting of 5 events which this year were Archery, Navigation Exercise, Leadership Exercise, Vehicle pull and First Aid scenario. A big well done to those who took part. The competition is expected to return to it's regular residential weekend format next year.
