Pentabus Theatre

Pentabus Theatre Pentabus is the nation's rural theatre. The Pentabus Experiment or Concept as it was originally known was formed in 1973.

The company originally toured new work to five counties in the West Midlands. The work in those early years played in wide variety of venues including village halls, schools, pubs and numerous outdoor locations. As time went on the company extended their reach to include national and international projects and began eliciting the attention of the national press and collecting awards. In the recent

times Pentabus Theatre has continued to pioneer engaging, surprising and provocative new work. Our output can only be categorised by its variety of approach, scale of ambition and determination to connect directly with people and place. It is always the product of collaboration with writers, artists and companies that inspire us

We’re absolutely delighted to share that we have been nominated for the for the NRTF Connection Award 2026 for Make Good: The Post Office Scandal.

This show took the stories of those affected by the Horizon scandal into village halls and community spaces across the country, Make Good sparked conversations, brought people together, and reminded us of the power of gathering to share stories.

We couldn't be prouder of Elle, the company, our partners at New Perspectives, and all the audiences, promoters and community choirs who helped make this journey so special.

Congratulations to all the nominees. We can't wait to celebrate with the rural touring community in 2026.

We’re delighted to announce that Rhys Warrington is the Jerwood Writer in Residence for 2026 🎉 at Pentabus.

“I am absolutely thrilled, and incredibly honoured, to be the Jerwood Writer in Residence 2026. To get the opportunity to spend a year embedding myself in this extraordinary company whose work, focusing on rural communities, is something not only very close to my heart but feels more pressing than ever in these isolating, polarising times. I’m incredibly excited to work alongside Elle, Verity and the whole team — I can’t wait to get started.”

Welcome, Rhys — we’re so excited for the year ahead.
