Four Swifts over high over Gallows Bank yesterday, last year they were seen on April 29th.
We are hoping the sparrows have not stolen our nest site.
There is nothing better than a summers evening sitting out on the decking with a beer watching 3 -6 swifts screaming and beating up the house.

The date for the next branch event, Clare Hill on regenerative farming, is the Thursday the 9th of April, 7.30pm at the Mascall Centre Ludlow

I have been asked "What is regenerative farming" , please come along to what will be a very interesting and important evening led by a very knowledgeable speaker, discussions should be good, lots to learn much to think about.

The dictionary definition is a regenerative farmer is a land manager who focuses on improving soil health, biodiversity, and ecosystem resilience rather than just maintaining production. By working with nature—using methods like no-till, cover cropping, and rotational grazing—they aim to actively regenerate soil, improve water retention, and capture atmospheric carbon, often moving away from heavy synthetic fertilizer or pesticide use.

I would also like to thank Lucy Grove for an excellent talk on hedging which covered all types of hedging and farming. I valued her balanced approach in helping in all types of situations with some excellent results for nature and the farmers. I also congratulate the C.P.R.E for their important work for nature which must be well over 40years, I can remember having there support for schemes during that time.

We are blest with having Clare and Lucy so local to us.

🌱 Hedge Planting in Ludlow!
Ludlow Town Council is teaming up with CPRE Shropshire’s Hedgerow Heroes Project and pupils from Ludlow Primary School to plant a new stretch of mixed native hedgerow. It’s a brilliant chance for local children to learn outdoors and help boost biodiversity right here in our community.
🐾 A small favour: we’ll be using the area as an outdoor classroom on the day, so please help us keep it clean by picking up after your dogs. It makes a huge difference.
🌿 Since 2021, CPRE Shropshire volunteers have planted 24km of native hedgerow across the county, supporting wildlife corridors and healthier landscapes.
