Jackie Bailey

In our next installment of Slow Food Stories, we spotlight the amazing Jackie of Umami Chef!

What happens when an unexpected health diagnosis closes one door and opens another?

For Jackie, founder of Umami Chef, an autoimmune condition that ruled out soy became the starting point for one of the UK’s most distinctive fermentation businesses. We visited her Worcester-based HQ to taste the results and discovered a masterclass in why, when it comes to great food, slow really is better!

🐌Slow Food Ludlow & The Marches AGM 2026 🐌

AGMs don’t always have a reputation for being the liveliest events, but Slow Food Ludlow’s is a happy exception!

On Wednesday, our Slow Food community came together at the stunning Great Berwick Organics in the summer evening warmth!

We were all treated by Sam and Claire to a Longhorn cow safari, with beautiful views in a magnificent setting and sone delicious food in their beautiful farmhouse overlooking the Shropshire hills. The AGM is also a chance for our members to get together, share their news, catch up and enjoy the wonderful hospitality shown by our hosts!

Will and Tish our Slow Food Co-chairs shared updates and news with members, and whilst he was unable to join us on this occasion, ended the annual report with a personal comment from Chair of Slow Food UK, Shane Holland.

‘Slow Food Ludlow continues to lead the way as a Slow Food convivium - consistently punching above it’s weight in all directions.

You are one of the largest groups in the UK, with membership exceeding many more populous areas, you run interesting events which engage producers and public alike; but most importantly at all, you embody the very best.’

It was a wonderful evening and the biggest thankyou to Slow Food members, the Great Berwick team for their wonderful food and hospitality!

🌟 What a night! 🌟

Steve and Tish from Slow Food Ludlow have been working with young adults from Ludlow Foyer for the last 3 months and last night was the culmination of these incredible young adults hard work..... and they smashed it!

A sunny summers eve hosted at Appleteme, the team prepped and served fresh pizza, assorted tacos, spring rolls and bhajis, not forgetting delicious Pandang cake and strawberries!

The project has provided a wide range of support to Foyer residents to help build new skills, help tackle barriers to employment, cooking sessions, employer engagement, mentoring and counselling services.

This has been a wonderful
collaboration between the Foyer team (Connexus Housing group) the Ludlow and Area Community Partnership and Slow Food Ludlow Marches.

This project was made possible due to the Welcome Funding received from the Shropshire Community
Foundation/Denso JCE and Slow Food Ludlow Marches.

Thankyou to everyone who was involved, the guests joined them last night and of course special commendation to this brilliant team for their hard work and determination to create such a successful evening and few months!

Slow Food Summer Fiesta 2026! 🐌 ☀️

Looking back on these wonderful pictures and reflecting on what was, again, a perfect Slow Food day, spent with lovely customers in the perfect spot nestled deep in the Shropshire Hills. The sun shone and we definately celebrated what Slow Food is all about!

The biggest thanks to The Bridges, and their fantastic team for having us and of course, to all the Slow Food producers, supporters and visitors who joined us!

We would love to see your pictures of the day so don’t forget to drop any lovely photos of the day in the comments!
