We were very sad to hear of the death of Eamonn Deane. Eamonn was a kind and genuine gentleman who gave so much to our community, particularly through his work as a peacemaker and through the Holywell Trust. We have such fond memories of our time based in Holywell and are grateful for the welcome and spirit of community that Eamonn helped create there. Our thoughts are with his whole family, friends and colleagues at this sad time.
ご冥福をお祈りします。

Holywell Trust is sad to share the news that our former founder, Director, Chairman and friend Eamonn Deane has passed away.

Eamonn died yesterday, 26th August 2026, peacefully, surrounded by his loving family, at Altnagelvin Hospital.

Beloved husband of Sally, loving father of Gerard (Maíreád), Fionnuala (Michael), Aoife (John) and Brendan (Rachel), devoted grandfather of Cormac, Eiméar, Anna, Róan, Sally, Jo, Connor and Clodagh, dear son of the late Frank and Winnie, cherished brother of Una, Deirdre and the late Eilis, Liam, Seamus and Gerard, sadly missed by his cousins, friends and the wider family circle.

Eamonn will be reposing at his home 63 Marlborough Street on Thursday 27th August from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. and Friday from 12:00 noon to 9:00 p.m.

Funeral leaving his home on Saturday 29th at 1:00 p.m. to the City Cemetery for interment at 1:30 p.m.
Eamonn will be a sore loss for everyone at Holywell.
Rest easy.

We’re in the Irish Times today!! So grateful to Jeananne Craig for writing about our Taiko for Carers project—it’s a lovely piece and really captures what it’s all about.

This started with support from the Department of Health Carers Fund (via Community Foundation for Northern Ireland NI) and Radius Housing Good Relations funding.

We drummed together, supported each other, performed at the Foyle Obon festival in May. and even had an incredible workshop with Eiichi Saito and Taiyo Onoda from Kodo 鼓童 (!).

Best of all, this article lets you hear directly from the carers themselves—their voices, in their own words.

So proud of them all!!

On Monday 29 June, we were delighted to bring together regional Japan societies and community organisations from across the UK in Liverpool, with support from the Embassy of Japan in the UK.
Taking place alongside the Japanese Summer Festival organised by Japan Society North West and JETAA UK (JET Alumni Association United Kingdom) in Sefton Park, the meeting brought together groups including Japan Society North West, Bristol Japanese Cultural Society, Japan Society of Northern Ireland, The Japan Society of Scotland, Foyle Obon, Orkney Japan Association, Kotatsu Japanese Animation Festival, JETAA UK, Japan in Devon and others.
It was a fantastic day of sharing ideas, building connections and celebrating the many ways Japanese culture connects communities across the UK.
