After much debate about whether to go racing or not yesterday morning, we decided to give it a go. It's a testament to all our disabled sailors from Belfast Lough Sailability,Lough Erne Sailability and our own Foyle Sailability didn't hesitate in getting out on the water. Foyle started out cautiously, with sails well reefed, and struggled to keep up with the great sailors from BLS and Lough Erne. After shaking the reefs out, we competed well and we're so close to a couple of wins. It ended with 3 of our sailors on the podium though. RoseAnn McGinley coming a close second and Maria McGrory and Cara Curran taking 2 bronze medals !
Well done to you all. Bear in mind, most of the other sailing events had to be cancelled yesterday at Greencastle Regatta Festival due to strong winds. Our course was sheltered slightly by the sea wall which helped.
Special word of thanks to Martin Haire , who had to run about like a hare for two days, towing and delivering, then pontoon duty and more towing. Cara Curran for bringing down equipment etc. Kieran McAllister for towing on Friday. Peter Fallon and Sean McCafferty, race officers, generator technicians, scone butterers and all round dogs bodies ๐ช.
Thanks as well to Dion and Ken (sailing), Garry and Eoin (safety boats) and all our friends from BLS and Lough Erne Yacht Club Sailability for getting stuck in where it was needed. A word of thanks also to Oran Young RYA Northern Ireland for attending. Hope you're heated up and dried out a bit.
Wee special mention to our own Claire McCarron, who was missing yesterday due to a prolonged stay in hospital. We hope you're well soon again Claire and back out sailing.
We hope today stays good for the Greencastle Festival and thank them for their invitation and support. Lastly a big thank you to Greencastle Harbour for the use of their pontoons.
