An icon. A queen. And a rather tricky customer.

This beautiful lady was already known to our cat clinic, as she was heavily pregnant when we first met her.

Keen to make sure it was her last litter, our team planned to bring her in for spay surgery as soon as we could.

She wasn’t keen to make friends at first... But with some gentle coaxing, a handy basket, and likely a well-placed morsel of fish, we were finally able to bring her safely to our cat-only spay/neuter clinic.

Now firm friends (or at least willing to accept bribes 🐟) we’ll hopefully be able to share an update the next time we see her.

family, meet this handsome community dog 💙

We first met him last year when he came to one of our clinics for his all-important neuter surgery (that little ear tip tells the story 🐾).

At the time, he was also suffering with a painful skin rash. But thanks to your kindness, our team were able to treat him, and just look at him now!

A few weeks ago, while we were checking in on some local cats, who should come trotting over to say hello but our old friend here, proudly posing beside the Dogstar van like he owned it 😄

These days, he's doing brilliantly and is regularly fed by the lovely Renu, a local cat fosterer and long-time friend of Dogstar.

Dogs like him are such an important reminder that with kindness, regular meals, and people looking out for them, community dogs can live safe, happy lives exactly where they are.

And it simply wouldn't be possible without you.

Thank you for being part of his story.

The look of love 💙

At our free spay/neuter clinics, we welcome both pet dogs and roaming dogs, helping prevent unwanted litters and giving them the chance of a healthier future.

Alongside our world-class vets, our community team is there to answer questions, offer advice, and support owners before and after surgery. Because we know that animal welfare is about so much more than treatment alone. It's about supporting the people who care for these animals too.

And whether it's our incredible supporters, dedicated team, or the communities we work alongside every day, we're all working towards the same goal: a Sri Lanka where every dog and cat can thrive 🐾

P.S. You might notice the pooch pictured here is wearing a chain lead. In Sri Lanka, chain leads are often the only option sold in local shops. However, many families actually don’t own collars or leads because their dogs are usually free-roaming. But, when they bring their pets to our clinics, a chain lead is often the only safe way they have to transport them.

We want to wish all who are celebrating a very happy Vesak 💙

As Sri Lanka’s most important Buddhist festival, Vesak commemorates the birth, enlightenment, and passing of the Buddha.

Homes and businesses light up with beautiful handmade lanterns, and as you can see, our team have been busy crafting some of their own.

We may be biased, but we think they look pretty pawsome 🐾

Vesak is a time for kindness, generosity, and compassion. And we're incredibly grateful to see those values reflected in our wonderful community every day.

Patiently waiting for breakfast 💙

Our team often feel like celebrities when they’re doing the feeding rounds. But it’s so much more than making sure street dogs and cats have full tummies. It builds trust. It builds strength. And helps make sure we can step in quickly with treatment or spay/neuter surgery when the time is right.

And it’s all possible because of you!

“Why don’t you open a shelter or run a rehoming service?”

This is a question we’re often asked – and it’s an important one.

When many people think about helping street dogs, the first instinct is often to find them a home, which we completely understand.

But in Sri Lanka, many free-roaming dogs aren’t abandoned or unwanted. Some belong to families but roam freely. Others are known and cared for by entire communities.

That’s why Dogstar's mission has never been about removing dogs from the streets. Through CNVR (Catch, Neuter, Vaccinate, Return), you’re helping animals stay healthy, preventing unwanted litters, and allowing them to thrive in the communities they already know as home.
