✨ With the power to avoid unplanned pregnancy, girls can stay in school and women have the freedom to choose their own future.

📈 That freedom benefits all of us – when women can participate fully in society, it advances economies, boosts equality and improves the health of families and individuals.

✅ That’s why, for every $1 invested in contraception, you get $120 in health and social impact gains. It’s not just the right investment; it’s a cost-efficient one too.

In war zones and crises, women and girls face unique dangers. Rates of sexual violence increase – and without access to healthcare they can face dangerous pregnancies, with no safe place to give birth.

We spoke to one of our brave midwives about why she is proud to provide reproductive choice in an area impacted by violent conflict ⬇️

Since opening our first clinic 50 years ago, we've supported nearly 300 million people around the world with their reproductive health.

Here's what access to reproductive choice has made possible ⬇️

💙 293 million people supported with reproductive healthcare, including contraception and abortion. That's 293 million lives changed, and a brighter, healthier future for millions of women and girls worldwide.

💙 110 million unsafe abortions prevented. When women cannot access a safe abortion, they may resort to an 'unsafe abortion', which can range from inserting sharp objects into their own bodies, to drinking battery acid. By providing access to contraception and safe abortion care, we've made sure that 110 million women have not had to risk their health or lives to an unsafe abortion.

💙 400,000 women's and girls' lives saved. Complications during pregnancy and childbirth are the leading cause of death globally for adolescent girls aged 15-19. And every year, 22,800 women die following unsafe abortions, because they were denied access to safe abortion care. By providing contraception and legal abortion care, we've prevented the deaths of 400,000 women and girls.

‼️At a time when millions of people are struggling to access contraception, The New York Times reports that the US government has left $9.7M of contraceptives to "collect dust and go bad".

MSI and partners offered to pay for the shipment and distribution of the supplies, so they can reach the people who desperately need them.

But the Trump administration said no, leaving the life-saving medical supplies to expire.

Please help us protect access to life-saving contraception with a donation.

💙 It all started in 1976, at a clinic in London – with a mission to provide and advocate for reproductive choice for all.

🌍 50 years later, we’re working across 36 countries and six continents. So, wherever you are, when you walk through our blue door, you'll receive a warm welcome and quality care.

✨ Over the past 50 years, we’ve supported nearly 300 million people to make choices about their bodies and their futures. Choices that can mean everything. Choices that can change or save a life.

❌ But millions of people worldwide still cannot access abortion or contraception. That’s why this anniversary isn’t just about how far we’ve come. It’s about the future we’re building.

✊ Thank you to our amazing team members and supporters who’ve been part of the fight for reproductive freedom so far.

👋 Meet Ifeoma, an MSI contraceptive nurse in Nigeria.

🚙 She travels to remote communities every day as part of an MSI outreach team, bringing contraception — and with it, the freedom for women and girls to choose their own futures.

✨ Because contraception is life changing. It supports girls to stay in school. It helps women pursue careers. It is directly linked to gender equality and the power to drive change.

🌍 That’s why MSI is working around the world — from the UK to Uganda — to ensure that everyone, everywhere, can access reproductive choice.

We've been so inspired by Tracey Emin's retrospective at the Tate, featuring her 'A-Z of abortion'.

When artist Tracey Emin accessed abortion care in the early 1990s, abortion was still extremely stigmatised in the UK. As she shared in her film 'How it feels', this caused delays in her accessing care, with a doctor refusing to approve her abortion because of his own personal views.

So in 2002, Emin created 'The Last of the Gold' – a quilt embroidered with the advice that she wished had been available to her when she needed an abortion. She explained, “I am sure it’s very much out of date now, but the fundamental principle is that there is very little information or advice to give women in that situation. So at the time I thought, ‘Why not put it across the gallery wall?’”

At MSI, we're fighting to destigmatise abortion and remove barriers for people in the UK around the world – and we love art that does the same 💙

“Your opinion is yours. But my body, my bodily autonomy, my ability to decide how and when I start a family - that needs to be mine.”

We couldn’t have said it better ourselves 💙 Watch this clip of Kerry Washington speaking about her abortion experience, and why she decided to share it in her memoir.

Thank you for always using your voice for choice, Kerry!

Good news! The UK House of Lords has backed abortion law reform, meaning women will no longer be criminalised for ending their own pregnancies.

Good news! 📢📢

Last night, the House of Lords backed reproductive choice as part of the abortion law reform that is currently going through parliament.

Voted on by MPs last June, this reform will put a stop to the prosecution of women in England and Wales ending their own pregnancies. Now, the House of Lords has voted in favour of this reform as well as pardons for those who already have a conviction.

This is pivotal in the journey to abortion law reform and ensuring no one in England and Wales will face invasive criminal investigations into their medical history and personal life following an unexplained pregnancy loss.

Next, the bill will move on to third reading, and eventually will be signed into law.
