This year marks 10 years since Oliver James Osborn, affectionately known as Ollie, passed away from SUDEP – Sudden Unexpected Death in Epilepsy. To commemorate the anniversary and honour his memory, Ollie’s brother Charlie has taken on an extraordinary challenge, cycling the Coast to Coast (C2C) route in northern England to raise vital funds for epilepsy research.

Charlie said, "For years, I’ve watched my dad and family raise money through bike rides, boxing, football, walks and lots of other events. So, when I was asked to take part in the C2C for the 10th anniversary of Ollie’s passing, I didn’t hesitate to say yes. It was a chance to remember my little brother and help other families affected by epilepsy.”

A new research project from the Epilepsy Research Institute and SUDEP Action will provide the most comprehensive assessment yet of the economic impact of epilepsy.

We’ll look at the costs of epilepsy across the lifetime – and identify gaps and opportunities to improve how resources are used. Together with our partners, we want this evidence to help drive greater investment in research, services and care, and ultimately improve outcomes for people affected by epilepsy.

Are you a woman living with epilepsy who is going through, or has gone through, the menopause?

Researchers at the William Quarriers Scottish Epilepsy Centre and Strathclyde University are running a study to better understand women’s experiences of menopause while living with epilepsy.

Your perspective matters and we would be grateful if you would be willing to share your experience with us. By sharing your experiences, you could help shape future support and care for women across Scotland with Epilepsy.

What does epilepsy really cost?

Around £2 billion is estimated to be spent on epilepsy by the NHS each year. But that only tells part of the story.

Our new project with SUDEP Action will examine the wider financial and social impact of epilepsy – including the costs experienced by individuals, families and communities, and the impact of epilepsy-related deaths. By making the full impact visible, we can build a stronger evidence base for better research, care and support.
