Our inaugural Research Summit will take place on 16 July 2026 at the Royal College of Physicians in London.

We are delighted that Professor Viktor Jirsa will chair the summit and deliver a keynote on Virtual Brain Twin technologies – from the Human Brain Project to EBRAINS – and their role in advancing personalised brain models and epilepsy treatment. He brings over 30 years of prize-winning neuroscience research and more than 200 publications.

This one-day event will explore the question: “So what?” – focusing on how epilepsy research moves beyond discovery to deliver real-world impact. The programme will bring together the community to showcase innovative work influencing practice and policy, and to discuss how we can better design and translate research to improve lives.

Our 2026 Supporters’ Reception brought together researchers, clinicians, partners, supporters and people affected by epilepsy, all united by a shared commitment to accelerating research that changes lives.

Guests heard about exciting progress in AI-powered diagnosis, at-home EEG, gene therapy, brain stimulation and lifespan studies, alongside a powerful contribution from Shape Network member Jenny Khoda, who shared her lived experience of epilepsy.

Thank you to everyone who joined us and continues to support epilepsy research.

Our next event for researchers, the “So what?” Research Summit, takes place this July at the Royal College of Physicians (London), bringing together leading experts to explore how epilepsy research can translate into real-world impact. The Epilepsy Research Institute is part of a £1.5 million Innovate UK-funded collaboration working to bring a new brain imaging technology into the NHS that could transform diagnosis and treatment for people with epilepsy.

Known as Optically Pumped Magnetoencephalography (OPM-MEG), the system uses lightweight sensors in a wearable helmet to measure brain activity with exceptional precision, helping clinicians identify where seizures begin and supporting more informed treatment decisions.
