Our library work, book donations and assisted reading programme is helping strengthen the reading culture in schools in Zambia. Thanks to the support of our generous donors and enthusiastic volunteers our work is resulting in a more confident reading population that is better equipped for the future.

📚 NEW TERM, NEW FOCUS! 🚌📖

The Book Bus is excited to announce the commencement of our Term 3 bi-weekly school visits, as we continue working alongside schools to strengthen reading culture and promote a love for learning among learners. Our first visits of the term took us to 𝗠𝘂𝘀𝗮𝗸𝗮𝘀𝗵𝗶 𝗣𝗿𝗶𝗺𝗮𝗿𝘆 𝗦𝗰𝗵𝗼𝗼𝗹 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗦𝗶𝘁𝘄𝗲 𝗣𝗿𝗶𝗺𝗮𝗿𝘆 𝗦𝗰𝗵𝗼𝗼𝗹 𝗶𝗻 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗺𝗯𝗶𝘀𝗵𝗶 𝗧𝗼𝘄𝗻𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽, 𝗞𝗮𝗹𝘂𝗹𝘂𝘀𝗵𝗶 𝗗𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗰𝘁, where learners enthusiastically participated in a variety of engaging literacy activities and enjoyed different stories.

It was wonderful to see learners actively taking part, sharing their ideas, listening attentively, and discovering the joy that comes from reading and learning together. Through these regular school visits, we aim to create meaningful opportunities for learners to develop their reading skills, build confidence, and cultivate a lasting love for books.

We are also privileged to have the support and participation of our international volunteer, who has joined the Book Bus team during this term’s activities. We greatly value the contribution, experience, and enthusiasm that the volunteer brings to our literacy programmes.

As we begin a new term, our focus remains clear: inspiring learners, supporting teachers, strengthening reading cultures, and making reading an enjoyable part of every learner’s school experience.

📚🌍 𝗛𝗔𝗣𝗣𝗬 𝗜𝗡𝗧𝗘𝗥𝗡𝗔𝗧𝗜𝗢𝗡𝗔𝗟 𝗟𝗜𝗧𝗘𝗥𝗔𝗖𝗬 𝗗𝗔𝗬 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲 𝗙𝗥𝗢𝗠 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗕𝗢𝗢𝗞 𝗕𝗨𝗦! 🌍📚

The Book Bus team was delighted to join the world in commemorating International Literacy Day 2026 under the theme, “Literacy for People, the Planet and Prosperity.”

This year, we celebrated the power of literacy at 𝗦𝘁. 𝗠𝗶𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗲𝗹’𝘀 𝗣𝗿𝗶𝗺𝗮𝗿𝘆 𝗦𝗰𝗵𝗼𝗼𝗹, where we had the opportunity to support learners and teachers through the donation of assorted storybooks and textbooks. 📖✨ As part of the celebration, the Book Bus team also conducted engaging reading sessions with learners, encouraging them to develop a love for reading, explore new stories, expand their knowledge, and appreciate the important role that literacy plays in their education and everyday lives.

At the Book Bus, we believe that every child deserves access to books and opportunities to read, learn, imagine and grow. By promoting a strong reading culture in schools and communities, we are contributing to the development of confident, knowledgeable and empowered learners who can make a positive difference in their communities and beyond.

A special thank you to the management, teachers and learners of St. Michael’s Primary School for welcoming us and supporting this important literacy initiative. Together, let’s read, learn, grow and build a more literate and prosperous future for all.📚❤️

The Book Bus warmly welcomes all learners, teachers, and school communities to the Third Term of the academic calendar!

As we begin a new term, we look forward to another exciting period of reading, learning, discovery, and creativity. We encourage all learners to return with enthusiasm and make reading a regular part of their daily learning journey. Every book opens a door to new ideas, knowledge, imagination, and possibilities.

We would also like to thank our dedicated teachers for their continued commitment and support in nurturing a strong reading culture in schools. Your encouragement plays an important role in helping learners develop confidence, improve their literacy skills, and discover the joy of reading.

As we journey through the Third Term together, let us continue to read widely, learn actively, share stories, and grow together. 𝗪𝗲𝗲𝗸 𝟯 𝗼𝗳 𝗛𝗼𝗹𝗶𝗱𝗮𝘆 𝗖𝗹𝘂𝗯𝘀 𝗮𝘁 𝗦𝘁. 𝗠𝗶𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗲𝗹’𝘀 𝗣𝗿𝗶𝗺𝗮𝗿𝘆 𝗦𝗰𝗵𝗼𝗼𝗹 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗕𝘂𝗰𝗵𝗶 𝗚𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱𝘀

Week 3 of our Holiday Clubs at St. Michael’s Primary School and Buchi Grounds has been incredibly interesting, exciting, and full of memorable experiences. The week has brought together fun, learning, creativity, teamwork, and plenty of opportunities for the children to discover and develop new skills.

It has been wonderful to see the children actively participating in the different activities, making new friends, building their confidence, and enjoying every moment of the holiday programme. From educational and creative sessions to games, sports, and team-building activities, there has been something for everyone to enjoy.

One of the most rewarding aspects of Week 3 has been witnessing the children’s enthusiasm and willingness to try new things. Their energy, curiosity, and smiles have created a vibrant atmosphere at both venues. We have also seen great examples of teamwork, leadership, communication, and positive interaction among the children.

Our dedicated team has continued to work hard to ensure that every child feels included, supported, and encouraged to participate. The aim has always been to create a safe and enjoyable environment where children can learn, play, express themselves, and make lasting memories during their school holiday.

As we look back on another successful week, we are grateful to all the children, parents, staff, and everyone who has contributed to making the Holiday Clubs such a wonderful experience. Week 3 has certainly been a week filled with fun, growth, learning, and unforgettable moments!

We are excited to share that we have successfully concluded Week 2 of our Holiday Clubs 𝗮𝘁 𝗕𝘂𝘁𝘂𝗻𝗴𝘄𝗮 𝗣𝗿𝗶𝗺𝗮𝗿𝘆 𝗦𝗰𝗵𝗼𝗼𝗹 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗞𝗮𝗳𝘂𝗲 𝗕𝗿𝗶𝗱𝗴𝗲 𝗣𝗿𝗶𝗺𝗮𝗿𝘆 𝗦𝗰𝗵𝗼𝗼𝗹! 🎉

Throughout the week, our dedicated Reading Mentors engaged learners in a variety of exciting and interactive activities centered around reading and storytelling. From exploring different storybooks to participating in fun learning activities, learners had opportunities to develop their reading skills, discover new stories, express their creativity, and, most importantly, enjoy learning. 📖🌟

A very big thank you to all the learners who consistently showed up, participated enthusiastically, and made each session so lively and meaningful. Your excitement and commitment continue to inspire us! 💛

We would also like to extend our sincere appreciation to the teachers at Butungwa Primary School and Kafue Bridge Primary School for their support, encouragement, and cooperation throughout the week. Your partnership has been invaluable in making these Holiday Clubs a success. 🙏🏾

Our Week 2 Holiday Clubs at Kafue Bridge Primary School and Butungwa Primary School have been progressing smoothly, with learners actively participating and showing great enthusiasm throughout the sessions.

The learners have been fully engaged in reading a variety of stories, exploring new vocabulary, and taking part in different literacy-based activities designed to strengthen their reading, comprehension, communication, and creative thinking skills. The sessions have provided learners with an enjoyable and supportive environment where they can develop their confidence and cultivate a greater interest in reading.

It has been encouraging to see learners actively contributing to discussions, sharing their understanding of the stories they read, and working together during group activities. The continued support from the teachers and the enthusiasm demonstrated by the learners are contributing significantly to the success of the holiday clubs.

We look forward to continuing with the remaining sessions and providing learners with more opportunities to read, learn, create, and have fun during the school holidays.

The Book Bus has successfully concluded Week 1 of the Holiday Clubs at Chavuma Primary School and Dongwe Community Centre in Kalulushi District.

We extend our sincere appreciation to all the learners who attended and actively participated in the sessions. We also greatly appreciate the teachers and staff for their continued support, commitment, and cooperation in making the Holiday Clubs a success.

We look forward to continuing with Week 2 of the Holiday Clubs next week, which will be held at Kafue Bridge Primary School and Butungwa Primary School in Kitwe District. We are excited to continue creating engaging learning opportunities for learners during the school holidays and look forward to another productive week.

The Book Bus has successfully commenced Week 1 of our Holiday Clubs at 𝗗𝗼𝗻𝗴𝘄𝗲 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗖𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗲 and 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝘃𝘂𝗺𝗮 𝗣𝗿𝗶𝗺𝗮𝗿𝘆 𝗦𝗰𝗵𝗼𝗼𝗹 𝗶𝗻 𝗞𝗮𝗹𝘂𝗹𝘂𝘀𝗵𝗶 𝗗𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗰𝘁, with this week’s theme focusing on Leadership.

The Holiday Clubs provide an exciting and engaging platform for learners to continue learning during the school holiday while developing important life skills, building confidence, and nurturing a love for reading. Through a combination of storytelling, reading activities, discussions, games, creative activities, and teamwork, learners are being encouraged to explore what it means to be a good and responsible leader.

The leadership theme is helping learners understand that leadership is not only about holding a position or being in charge, but also about taking responsibility, showing integrity, listening to others, making positive choices, working as a team, and serving others. Learners are being given opportunities to identify leadership qualities in themselves and others and to reflect on how they can demonstrate these qualities at home, at school, and within their communities.

The first week has been an encouraging start, with learners actively participating in the activities and demonstrating enthusiasm, creativity, and a willingness to learn. The Book Bus team is grateful to the staff, community leaders, parents, and facilitators at Dongwe Community Centre and Chavuma Primary School for their continued support in making the Holiday Clubs possible.

As we move into the coming weeks, we look forward to building on this positive beginning and creating more opportunities for learners to read, learn, create, lead, and have funthroughout the Holiday Clubs.

Reading shouldn’t hit pause just because school’s out. That’s why The Book Bus Holiday Clubs are a true game-changer. During school breaks, these engaging sessions pop up across our project sites, giving children the opportunity to keep their reading momentum alive. Through fun, interactive activities and storytelling, children continue to build literacy skills while developing confidence, creativity, and a love for books.

What an amazing bi-weekly school visit we had with the learners at 𝗦𝗶𝘁𝘄𝗲 𝗣𝗿𝗶𝗺𝗮𝗿𝘆 𝗦𝗰𝗵𝗼𝗼𝗹 𝗶𝗻 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗺𝗯𝗶𝘀𝗵𝗶 𝗧𝗼𝘄𝗻𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽, 𝗞𝗮𝗹𝘂𝗹𝘂𝘀𝗵𝗶 𝗗𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗰𝘁!

It was truly encouraging to see the enthusiasm of the learners and the positive impact that access to books is having on their learning journey. One of the highlights of our visit was seeing the children actively reading and enjoying the books generously donated by The Book Bus.

Moments like these remind us of the power of books to inspire curiosity, strengthen literacy skills, and open up new worlds of opportunity for young learners. We are grateful to The Book Bus and its partners for supporting a love of reading and helping create brighter futures, one book at a time.
