Four Corners Books

Four Corners Books Independent publisher. Making books about unfamiliar corners of art history. At Four Corners Books we seek to bring art history to life.

Our aim is to explore unfamiliar corners of visual history, share the stories we find, and publish them as well as we can. Run by Richard Embray and Elinor Jansz, we’ve been making books since 2003. Our aim, as historians, is to create a space to reflect on artists and creative outputs from our recent past that have often been overlooked. It’s our mission to champion this creativity, in an accessi

ble way. We’re interested in those hidden pockets of art that can spark a bit of joy. Books that can amuse or educate, challenge or intrigue, delight or provoke. They are more than books about art. They are a way to experience it.

The perfect gift for photography lovers and fans of all things analogue, Annebella Pollen’s beautiful collection of photo wallets explores the significance of ephemera. For Pollen, 'a wallet might not seem of much consequence, but the 100 examples in this book show a century of attitudes and taste through the images they enforce – children always smiling, the sun always shining.'

To mark World AIDS Day, we're highlighting Group Material's AIDS Timeline, which features in our book Show And Tell: A Chronicle Of Group Material.

Group Material's AIDS Timeline was a 1989 exhibition that chronologically presented artworks, artifacts, and media to examine the social, political, and cultural history of the AIDS crisis in the United States from 1979 to 1989.

The installation was information-heavy, with ephemera and artworks placed throughout it. Artefacts intended to mark cultural events were included too. The work served as an important educational tool, using art and activism to raise awareness and confront public indifference to the AIDS crisis.

Find out more about the book on our website.

Founded in 1974, See Red Women’s Workshop grew from a shared desire to combat sexist images of women and to create positive and challenging alternatives.

Written by See Red members, our book features all their original screenprints alongside posters commissioned for radical groups and campaigns. Confronting negative stereotypes, questioning the role of women in society, and promoting women’s self-determination, the power and energy of these images reflect an important and dynamic era of women’s liberation — and have continued relevance for today.
