👏 We celebrated two Ice Breakers from Prabin Shrestha and Saurav Dwivedi, while Fiona McFarland had us laughing with “The Day Everything Went to the Dogs” 🐾😂

🌟 Riverside Communicators Meeting Highlights | Wednesday, 7 October 2026 🌟

Two Ice Breakers, a speech that had us laughing, exciting achievements, and plenty of opportunities to grow! Another fantastic evening at Riverside Communicators. 🎤👏

🤝 A warm welcome to everyone!

Our Meet & Greeter, Farah Hussain, welcomed members and guests, while Luke Thomas, our Sergeant at Arms, officially opened the meeting. President Julian Ward welcomed everyone and presented the evening’s awards. Our Toastmaster of the Day, Russell Searle, kept the meeting flowing smoothly.

⏱️ A big thank you to Agnieszka Sielaff, our Timer, and Michael Yogarajah, our Grammarian, for helping make the evening both organised and educational.

🎤 Prepared Speech Highlights

🏔️ Prabin Shrestha took us From the Himalayas to London in his Ice Breaker speech, sharing his journey and introducing us to his world.

✨ Saurav Dwivedi presented Standing Here as Myself, another Ice Breaker that gave us a glimpse into his personal journey and perspective.

🐶 Fiona McFarland stole the spotlight with The Day Everything Went to the Dogs! With engaging humour, expressive body language, and fantastic vocal variety, she delivered one of the standout performances of the evening. Needless to say, this speech was anything but a ruff performance! 🐾😂

🎤 Brian Carter also took to the stage, adding to an evening filled with learning and development.

👏 Thank you to our evaluators Rithika Srinivasan, Luke Thomas, Matthew Oultram, and Fiona McFarland for providing valuable feedback to help our speakers improve and grow.

💡 Table Topics: Thinking on Your Feet

Our Table Topics Master, Farah Hussain, challenged members to think quickly and speak confidently, while Ilya Sukhovalov provided insightful evaluations to help everyone sharpen their impromptu speaking skills.

🏆 Riverside Communicators Contest Night | 30 September 2026 🏆

No regular meeting this week—instead, Riverside Communicators hosted an evening of competition, laughter, quick thinking, and outstanding speaking talent.

😂 Humorous Speech Contest

Our contestants took to the stage with stories, humour, and plenty of audience laughter:

🎤 Julian Ward shared a memorable tale involving a cellar, a trolley, a river, and an unexpected encounter with local law enforcement.

🐶 Richard Sharkey entertained the audience with a hilarious speech centred around his dog.

😄 Luke Thomas had the room groaning and laughing in equal measure with a collection of classic dad jokes.

🏆 Congratulations to Richard Sharkey, who was crowned the winner of the Humorous Speech Contest and will progress to the next stage of competition.

🎙️ Table Topics Contest

Contestants were challenged with the same thought-provoking question:

“If you could snooze a certain period of your life, which years would you choose?”

The challenge was taken on by:

✨ Surinder Alhuwalia
✨ Zara Sari
✨ Russell Searle

Each contestant brought a unique perspective, demonstrating creativity, confidence, and impressive impromptu speaking skills.

🏆 Congratulations to Surinder Alhuwalia, winner of the Table Topics Contest, who will also advance to the next stage.

A fantastic evening showcasing the talent, humour, and speaking excellence that makes Riverside Communicators such a special club.

Another fantastic evening of learning, growth, and communication at Riverside Communicators!

A warm welcome was provided by our Meet & Greeter, Matthew Oultram, while Prabin Shrestha opened the meeting as Sergeant at Arms. President Julian Ward welcomed members and guests, and Vikash Kumar expertly guided the evening as Toastmaster of the Day.

✨ Abhinay Dinari delivered his Ice Breaker speech, My Journey: Always Becoming, sharing his personal story and giving members a glimpse into his experiences, aspirations, and journey so far.

📈 Matthew Oultram presented Marginal Gains, exploring how small improvements, consistently applied, can lead to significant long-term results.

💡 Michael Yogaraja delivered Can We Work on Our Overall Happiness? as part of his Effective Body Language project, encouraging members to reflect on happiness, wellbeing, and the habits that help us lead more fulfilling lives.

Their thoughtful feedback helped speakers continue developing their communication and leadership skills.

The highlight of the evening was a highly engaging educational workshop led by Chris Boden, who shared valuable insights into the art of Table Topics.

From handling unexpected questions to structuring impromptu responses with confidence, Chris provided practical techniques, useful frameworks, and plenty of food for thought. The session reminded us that impromptu speaking is not about having the perfect answer—it’s about communicating clearly, confidently, and authentically.

The workshop was both informative and interactive, giving members valuable tools they can apply not only in Toastmasters but also in everyday conversations, meetings, interviews, and presentations.

A big thank you to everyone who contributed to another enjoyable and educational evening.

Riverside Communicators continues to be a place where people build confidence, strengthen communication skills, and grow as leaders—one speech, one evaluation, and one Table Topic at a time.
