UJIA's impact in Israel

In the Galil, northern Israel, we regenerate areas of need through investment in education to ensure a positive future for its people. The Galil is a beautiful but underdeveloped region, which is strategically vulnerable due to its close proximity to the Lebanon border. We are transforming the educational landscape of the Galil, investing in primary and secondary schools, colleges and universities. These new buildings create focal points for the sustainable development of the Galil. In addition, we fund educational programmes which improve the standard of learning in schools, encourage young people to engage with their communities and support the transition from education to employment. In the UK we strengthen young people's knowledge, faith and Jewish identity through a meaningful connection with their heritage. UJIA is focused on shaping the next generation of the Jewish community, enabling them to strengthen their understanding and commitment to their heritage with Israel at its heart. We work in four areas; Jewish youth movements, Jewish day schools, Jewish students and engagement with Israel.

Three years ago, on Shemini Atzeret, lives were lost, families were torn apart and communities were forever changed.

Today, we remember all those who lost their lives on 7th October, and hold their families and loved ones in our thoughts.

In the days and years since, UJIA’s work has changed radically. Alongside our existing work, our teams in Israel responded immediately to the needs of survivors, supporting evacuated families with food and hygiene supplies and helping establish temporary daycare facilities, pop-up schools and playrooms for thousands of evacuees.

We have also helped make thousands of hours of trauma support possible for those who experienced the atrocities of 7th October.

Three years on, we remember. We stand with those who continue to rebuild their lives and we remain committed to supporting the people of Israel.

This could be through education, dialogue, cultural programming, community-building, travel programmes or any initiative that helps others explore and strengthen their connection with Israel. The strongest nominations will show real ability to inspire and positively influence those around them.

Last week, the UJIA community came together for the Trailblazers Annual Dinner 2026, and it was a night to remember.

Our guest speaker, Dan Senor, joined our trustee and Trailblazer Edward Isaacs for an incredible and powerful conversation. We also heard from five young trailblazers whose stories showed, far better than any statistic could, what UJIA's work looks like in practice across Israel and the UK. Their courage and leadership are a reminder of what becomes possible when people choose to step forward.

Together, we raised nearly £2 million. The support from this dinner will help communities across Israel rebuild and recover, invest in the next generation of young British Jews, and strengthen the bonds between our communities in the UK and Israel.

Thank you to everyone who was part of such a special evening.

For Paul Stahl, orchard manager at Kibbutz Bar’am, rebuilding isn’t simply about replacing what was lost.

It’s about protecting generations of work, investing in the future and remaining rooted in the place he calls home.

After two-thirds of Bar’am’s orchards were destroyed during the war, Paul is building back with new ideas, new infrastructure and the determination to make the orchards stronger than before.

He is a Trailblazer.

At Kibbutz Bar’am, two-thirds of the orchards were destroyed during the war. But orchard manager Paul Stahl isn’t looking back. He’s looking forward.
