C4WS Homeless Project exists to respond to the issue of homelessness and help people to rebuild their This is also open to the homeless and those in need.

C4WS Homeless Project is a small organisation that assists homeless people all year round, helping them to rebuild their lives. Opening it’s doors for the first time in January 2005, a group of 7 churches took it in turns to provide free shelter and food for 13 of the coldest weeks of the year. Since then C4WS Homeless Project has evolved and developed to where we are today. Our main activities are:

C4WS Homeless Shelter, running from 1st November – 31st March every year, providing emergency accommodation to the homeless in 14 churches. C4WS co-manages a weekly lunchtime club for all former guests who have moved on from the shelter as a way of continuing support. Welfare support is provided alongside this, with refreshments and social support. C4WS Mentoring and Befriending Scheme, providing support to former guests of the C4WS shelter through helping them with life skills, tenancy, educational and employment support. C4WS English classes, supporting homeless people with limited English skills to be able to integrate into the society, access education, put themselves forward for jobs and generally improve their skills. Our film fundraiser last night was a big success! We screened Urchin raising £945 which will go towards buying essential items such a toiletries, underwear and socks for our Wednesday Club attendees. A huge thank you to Charlotte Street Hotel for their hospitality, and to Jude’s Ice Cream and Pip Organic for their donation of drinks and ice creams! And thank you to Picturehouse Picturehouse Entertainment for their support to screen URCHIN! Stay tuned for more fundraisers ⭐

In July, Siân spent a month volunteering in Calais with , supported by C4WS. We thought it was important for one of our team members to understand more about the context of Calais and border crossings, given many of our shelter guests have spent time crossing and living at borders before coming to London to find a home.

Siân said "learning how humanitarian organisations operate at the border has been very interesting, and I've really enjoyed the mixture of physical work at the warehouse and work that feels a lot more familiar to C4WS, particularly at the main day centre in Calais"

"The most insightful (and difficult) part of being there is understanding the reality of the political context, in particular the policing of people on the move. There are daily evictions of living sites, with people forcibly moved and their tents and possessions destroyed and people being detained by police. With threats from the police and no legal routes to the UK, people are forced to make more dangerous journeys to the UK, resulting in more injury and death at the border. During my month in Calais, 6 people died trying to cross the channel"

Thank you to our friends at American International Church Soup Kitchen London for hosting us today as volunteers at this morning's soup kitchen. We work closely with AIC who host our shelter for one night a week during the winter and are excited to be learning from the soup kitchen to make improvements to our Wednesday Club drop-in by witnessing the wonderful work they do on Tottenham Court Road ⭐

Thank you for having us at the very twee very wonderful Wes Anderson: The Archives exhibition!

Last week a group of us with former shelter guests attended the exhibition. If we have learnt anything from this exhibition it is that the Grand Budapest Hotel is very small. And also that beagles LOVE blueberries 🫐.

We are looking forward to the rest of our summer programme which includes taking former shelter guests and service users on London outings like these whilst continuing to support them with their move on out of homelessness and into more stable living.
