Radio programmes like this wonderful piece all come from the trend around at the moment exploring “Blue Health”, the healing properties of water. Were the rabbis of old already well versed in such a concept, hence this transitional experience in Mikveh or are we overlaying the modern concept over this ancient ritual? https://www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/m002xnv0?partner=uk.co.bbc&origin=share-mobile

Can Jewish tradition and tattoos ever be part of the same conversation?
In this thoughtful and surprisingly nuanced episode, Miriam explores one of Judaism’s most debated contemporary questions with renowned Hebrew calligrapher and tattoo artist Gabriel Wolf.
Together they unpack the biblical prohibition on tattoos, the history behind the verse in Leviticus, and why the conversation is far more complex than many people realise. From Holocaust memory and Jewish identity to ritual, grief, migration and personal transformation, this is a discussion about the stories we carry—both on our skin and within ourselves.
Rather than asking simply whether tattoos are permitted, the conversation explores why people seek permanent markers of life’s defining moments, how Jewish ritual helps us navigate change, and whether ancient tradition and modern self-expression can coexist.
Whether you’re deeply observant, proudly secular, tattooed, tattoo-curious, or simply interested in Jewish thought, this episode offers a compassionate and intellectually rich exploration of identity, memory and what it means to mark a life well lived.

An uplifting morning at the brainchild of Karen Mattison MBE as Fiona Starr showed me how her wonderful wellbeing group works in The Pantry at Cook For Good. Such a supportive and uplifting group with a very affirming comment from one participant who said, “groups like this achieve so much more than therapy”. I know therapy has a hugely valuable place in society but she was advocating for the key to community connections. Hoping it won’t be long before Wellspring are bringing people together in a way that allows them to lighten life’s burdens while they chat.

It would have been easy to make Sunday's pond visit one of sadness, fear and despair but the very name of the month of Iyar encourages us to look at what heals or nourishes us and the radiant glimmers of positivity. A gorgeously supportive group, the sunshine and the need to leave the negativity somewhere, was all it took for us to brave the cold water for a restorative dip. What does it mean to tell the Pesach story in a year like this one? *link in bio / via website*

In this special Life Dunk episode, Rabbi Miriam Berger joins the conversation for a searching, timely discussion about fear, Jewish identity, the power of the Haggadah, and the role of the Seder in hard times. Together they reflect on antisemitism close to home, the pressure of competing narratives, the importance of difficult questions, and the challenge of seeing both our own vulnerability and the suffering of others. Along the way, they explore practical ways to make the Seder more meaningful, more honest, and more alive — not by getting through more pages, but by asking better questions around the table.
