Halloween Pet Safety 🎃🐾
With Halloween around the corner, lets discuss how to keep your pet safe and go over the common risks and hazards. ⚠
🍫 Chocolate
Chocolate is toxic to dogs and can also be harmful to cats. It contains theobromine and caffeine, which can cause vomiting, diarrhoea, restlessness, tremors, seizures and, in severe cases, be life-threatening.
The darker the chocolate, the greater the risk. If your pet has eaten any chocolate, contact your vet immediately—don't wait for symptoms to appear.
🎉 Decorations
Halloween decorations can be fun, but they may pose risks to curious pets. Keep candles, pumpkins, electrical cables, fake cobwebs and small decorations well out of reach, as they can cause burns, choking or intestinal blockages if chewed or swallowed.
Create a safe, quiet space for your pet away from decorations and the excitement, and always supervise them around seasonal displays.
🍬 Trick or Treating
Frequent knocks at the door, unfamiliar visitors and loud noises can be stressful for pets.
Keep dogs, cats and rabbits in a quiet, secure room away from the front door, with access to fresh water, toys and a comfortable place to rest.
Remind children not to let pets escape when opening the door, and never force nervous animals to greet trick-or-treaters.
Keep safe this week but remember to have fun also! 👻
