Dame Vera Lynn Children's Charity

Dame Vera Lynn Children's Charity We support children aged under 5 with Cerebral Palsy and other motor learning impairments, help us to reach more than ever before 💙

Since the Charity was established in 2001 by our late President Dame Vera Lynn, the Forces Sweetheart, we have helped more than 700 families from across the South East who have with children with Cerebral Palsy and other motor learning impairments. Children with Cerebral Palsy struggle to learn fundamental skills - they do not have the typical early experiences of their peers because of their disa

bilities; often excluded from everyday activities in their communities and unable to attend mainstream nursery provision, limiting their opportunities for socialisation and integration. They are at risk of isolation and we provide an crucial early intervention service based on the methodology of Conductive Education. Parents and children work together in a supportive environment and we focus on improving a child's physical, social and emotional skills. Our sessions are hand-on structured and one-to-one or small group. Our services include: Small group Conductive Education Sessions, Music Therapy, Speech and Language Therapy, sensory/messy play, Swimming and Portage Home Play. No formal diagnosis or referral is needed to access our services and all of our services are offered to families free of charge.

Every milestone matters.

When Jonas first came to Dame Vera Lynn Children's Charity, standing independently felt a long way off. Today, thanks to his determination and specialist early intervention support, he is making incredible progress.

“He was standing more and more unaided and started taking a few independent steps after just five months of coming to our sessions.” – Beata, Session Lead

For many families, these moments are more than milestones—they are achievements they once feared might never happen.

With just over a week to go, we're incredibly excited to welcome teams to Mannings Heath Golf on Thursday 25 June for a beautiful day on the course, especially as the weather is looking set to be gorgeous!

As part of our 25th anniversary year, every team taking part will help us raise vital funds to transform the lives of children under five with cerebral palsy and other motor learning impairments, whilst helping us reach our goal of supporting an additional 25 children and families.

A huge thank you to everyone who has booked a team, donated a prize, sponsored a hole, and either shared supported the event in any way. We are also incredibly grateful to Keith Murray and the team at Ryan Canter Club for kindly sponsoring the day.

Due to a last-minute cancellation, we now have one final four-ball team available! This place will be allocated on a first come, first served basis.

More than a walk in the park 💙

For Jothi and his family, taking part in last year’s Walk Together meant so much more than completing a route.

Jothi joined us using his assisted walker - and his mum shared these incredibly moving words with us afterwards:

“This was much more than ‘a walk in the park’ for a family like ours. In fact, Jothi had never ‘walked’ in the park before.

The event inspired us to ask his school if we could borrow his walker for the day so he could take part - something we might not have had the confidence to do without the motivation of the event.

Friends, family, staff from his school and everyone at DVLCC were so impressed and proud of his efforts and were keen to donate. It gave us the confidence to try more activities like this in the future - and that is a game changer for us in terms of inclusion in the community and striving for an ordinary life.”

This beautiful video captures Jothi taking part in Walk Together - surrounded by people cheering him on and celebrating every step.

It is a powerful reminder that Walk Together is not simply about the distance covered. It is about confidence, inclusion, and giving every child the chance to take part in their own way.

Join us for Walk Together 2026 and help more children and families experience moments like this, one step at a time.

We are so proud of the environment our team creates for children and families when they come to their sessions 🌟

Creating a carer-friendly community is at the heart of everything we do. We wouldn't be able to do that without our amazing team and the wonderful families who access our services.

This Carers Week, we want to say thank you to all of our families and staff who make this community so welcoming. Because of you, carers are given the space to breathe, connect, and feel supported by people who want the best for them and their child.

Thank you for helping us create a place where everyone feels welcome 💙

“Jonas has always had delays with his mobility and development due to his diagnosis. He has required hospitalisation several times when he gets poorly with countless viruses and chest infections over the last 3 years. This has meant further delays in development as he regresses when he is poorly.” – Jonas’ Mum, Kate.

Despite these challenges, Jonas continues to make wonderful progress with the right support.

It was a pleasure to welcome Ben and Alan from All About Horsham Magazine to Dame Vera Lynn Children’s Charity this week. 💙

They spent time meeting some of our wonderful families and chatting with our CEO about the work we do to support young children with cerebral palsy and other motor learning impairments.

This year is particularly special as we celebrate our 25th Anniversary and continue Dame Vera Lynn’s legacy of helping children reach their full potential through specialist early intervention and family support.

We’re looking forward to sharing their feature in the coming months and raising awareness of the life-changing impact of our work across the community.
