Thank you to everyone who turned out today and hopefully enjoyed our Easter Egg Hunt 2026. It was great to see so many smiles and all the chocolate taken off our hands! Also a huge thanks to the local businesses One Stop, Malabar, Coop, M&S, Celebration Cakes, John Murray and SGG who generously helped with donations.
Cranleigh and District Lions look forwards to seeing you at Carnival and Morrisfest on 27th June.

Easter Egg Hunt
Friday 3rd April 2026
The Great Easter Egg Hunt takes place every year on Good Friday at
The Cranleigh Showground, Bookhurst Rd, Cranleigh GU6 7DW
Each year we have hundreds of energetic and enthusiastic egg hunters, so to stand a chance of hunting down an egg everyone must be lined up and ready to go at 10.30am.
The egg hunt is for children 10 years and under, who must be accompanied by an adult, and starts with a stroll (or run) across the Showground to the woods, where a number of plastic eggs have been hidden.
If you find a plastic egg, you win a chocolate egg! There are also Lions along the route with buckets of mini eggs, should you feel in need of some energy during the hunt.
Find out how the egg hunt works and read the rules click here
Free entry and parking, all donations welcome.
Refreshments will be available.

Cranleigh and District Lions Club recently received a request to support the wish of D DAY veteran Henry Rice to have donations made to the Blind Veterans military charity as he reached the milestone of his 100th birthday.
Henry was 100 last Friday
Henry served with the Royal Navy during Operation Neptune, the Seaborne part of Operation Overlord.
Today 82 years on, the beaches of Normandy are quiet save for the many thousands of tourists who visit, many to pay tribute to the 500,000, allied sailors, airmen, soldiers and paratroopers from many nations and who took part in the D-day landings. Many of whom never returned home.
As a Club we agreed that not only would we like to help by making a donation to Henry’s chosen charities, but the club wished to recognise Henry by making him a Melvin Jones Fellow. Melvin Jones was the Founder of Lions Clubs in 1917.
The Fellowship is not an award, it is a recognition, from Lions Clubs International to those who have been humanitarians, and served their community, or as in Henry’s case his country.
As someone who has been awarded the Légion d'honneur, you have the right to wear medals with pride, aside from this plaque there is a small badge, that we hope Henry will wear with equal pride. It recognises that you are a Melvin Jones Fellow.

Presented to Henry by Rod Weale Club President on 2nd March 2026.

A Big Thank You

We’d like to give you all a big thank you for the generous support you gave us over Christmas.

• With your help we were able to raise over £7,500 towards the cost of the Christmas food vouchers – a record!
• This was over half the nearly £14,000 we spent – with the rest coming from our reserves.
• Thanks to your help, 243 families and individuals in Cranleigh had a better Christmas.

Particular thanks to our fantastic sponsors Thomson Properties and the all of the High Street Businesses that supported us by selling our tree hearts.

Cranleigh Lions would like to wish you all a very happy and healthy New Year. Looking forwards to seeing you at our 2026 events.

Wenceslas Project
How would you feel if you had to choose between heating & eating?
Sadly, even in 2025, that is a choice that some do have to make.
With your help we can make a difference.
This will be the 12th year that Cranleigh & District Lions Club have run Project Wenceslas.
Previously the basis was that everyone over a certain age received the Winter Fuel Payment and we asked those that did not need it to consider donating some or all of it to us. Working in conjunction with the Citizens Advice Bureau, the foodbank, Homestart and other charities and organisations funds are used to help local people whose fuel bills are causing them problems.
We used to receive over £3,000 a year and then, of course, last year changed.
……….and now it has changed again !
The Winter Fuel Payment will now be paid to those born before 22nd September 1959 and living in England or Wales. However, those whose income exceeds £35,000 will then have to give it back !! Or rather the government will reclaim it by adjusting one’s tax code. There was a date to decline the payment if one did not want it but that has passed.
So, if you can help we would be very grateful if you will.
Money is not given to individuals – we make payment direct to energy companies or we top up pre-payment cards with cash.
If you are a UK tax payer we can also claim Gift Aid on your donation which means we can help more people. Bear in mind that Gift Aided donations can be included on your tax return.
Donations can be made quickly and simply online by following the link https://cafdonate.cafonline.org/29376
As we did last year the Club has taken a decision that any money left in the fund at the end of May 2026 will be transferred to our main account to help with general Welfare matters.
Thank you

We need your help this Christmas to provide essentials and a few festive extras for those local families that can’t afford a Merry Christmas.
Thanks to your generous donations, last year we provided over 250 Christmas food vouchers* to local families, at a cost of over £15,000. This year we know even more families need help.
Please donate as generously as you can – you can bring some love to another family this Christmas and help us to show them someone’s on their side this Christmas.
You can donate by:
Cash or card to one of our collectors
You can donate online via our website
Or you can ‘Sponsor a Hamper’ and bring some happiness to families and individuals in need in Cranleigh this Christmas, details below
We hope you will be able to support us with our Christmas events:
Collections outside Sainsbury’s and Co-op on Saturday 20th December from 10.30am to 2.30pm. Come and see us and buy a Christmas Heart for your tree or just make a donation
Cranleigh Lions appreciate the sponsorship of our activities this Christmas by Thomson properties.
* we used to give physical hampers that we packed ourselves, but demand has grown so much that we now give supermarket vouchers instead.
