Our beautiful little Lurcher Hetty left us today to begin her new life with Natalie, Matt, Lottie, Eli and Cockerpoo Kiwi.

Every now and then, a dog comes into rescue and, without you quite realising it, quietly works their way into your heart. Hetty has been one of those very special dogs, and I don't think any of us anticipated just how much we would fall in love with her.

There simply aren't enough superlatives to describe this wonderful little girl. Her temperament is second to none, she never puts a foot wrong, and her absolute adoration of children is just one of the many qualities that make her so exceptional.

And as for her adoption photographs, I simply couldn't choose a favourite, so I've had to share them all! Just look at that adorable little face, so proud to be chosen 🥹🩵

Wishing our precious Hetty and her lovely new family a lifetime of happiness together. You really are one in a million, little girl 🩵

Another lovely adoption to share, as our gorgeous little peanut, Samson, has recently headed off to his new home with Taylor, Tom, Margo and Belle 🏡

Having made the journey all the way from Ireland to join us at SSR, Samson has been everything you could wish for in a puppy. Such a sweet, happy little character, full of fun and mischief, and an absolute pleasure to watch grow in confidence during his time with us.

We're so pleased to hear that he's settling in beautifully with his new family, who are already enjoying life with their newest addition.

We certainly miss having this gorgeous little chap around, but we're thrilled to have played a part in giving him the wonderful start in life he deserves.

Wishing Samson and his lovely family many happy years together. We look forward to watching him grow and hearing all about his adventures! 🩵

Our gorgeous Lurcher Ashley has recently left us to begin a wonderful new chapter in his life with Clare, Lee, Honor, Flora and Mabel 🏡

Rescued from a traveller site where his future was far from certain, Ashley has been an absolute pleasure to have at SSR.

With his lovely, upbeat personality, affectionate nature and wonderfully happy outlook on life, Ashley has won the hearts of everyone who has spent time with him. An absolute diamond to walk on the lead, he's been a fabulous boy in every respect.

It's especially lovely to see a dog whose future was once so uncertain now enjoying the security and happiness of a loving home.

We wish Ashley and his new family every happiness together and look forward to hearing all about his adventures as he settles into his new life 🩵

It’s been a long road, but we got there in the end! 🩵

Our amazing Quentin has finally left us to begin his new life in a fabulous forever home with Sally and Glen.

It’s been a long journey for this gentle giant, who arrived in our care back in May, painfully underweight, covered in wounds and suffering from a fractured carpal joint. To see the magnificent boy he has become today makes it all worthwhile.

Whilst Quentin was recovering, Sally joined our volunteer dog walking team, and to say it was love at first sight when she first met and walked him would be an understatement!

With Sally and her partner Glen just two months away from moving into their new home, literally around the corner from SSR, we agreed that Quentin could join them once they had moved in and unpacked.

In the meantime, both have continued to volunteer weekly, enjoying regular walks and outings with their boy and building a wonderful bond with him.

Quentin is now settling beautifully into home life and has already enjoyed his first trip to the beach, which, by all accounts, he thoroughly loved!

We will, of course, continue to provide any necessary veterinary care relating to his previous carpal injury. Whilst we cannot predict whether arthritis may become an issue in the future, for now, Quentin has healed beautifully and is happy, comfortable and thriving.

After everything he has been through, we couldn't have wished for a happier outcome, and how lovely that he will remain just around the corner from us!

A huge thank you to Sally and Glen for their continued support and for giving our gorgeous boy the wonderful future he so deserves.

Be happy, Quentin. You've certainly earned it! 🩵🐾

🩵🩵🩵 BRIAR UPDATE 🩵🩵🩵

Look who's here! 🩵

We were delighted to collect Briar from Arthur Lodge this afternoon, where he has been receiving excellent post-operative care following his extensive orthopaedic surgery.

Our little man arrived accompanied by a rather substantial bag of medication and a very fetching bandana, which we may just have to treat to a light spritz of calming spray!

Briar still has a long road to recovery ahead of him, and the coming weeks will require careful management, plenty of rest and close monitoring to ensure he remains as comfortable as possible.

For now, our priority is to help him settle into his new surroundings and ensure he receives all the care and support he needs throughout his recovery.

Once again, a huge thank you to everyone for the overwhelming kindness, support and generosity shown towards Briar. It really has been quite extraordinary, and we are so grateful.

We will, of course, continue to keep you updated on his progress as he embarks on the next stage of his recovery 🩵

Our precious little Tilly Tittlemouse recently left us to begin a wonderful new chapter in her forever home with Annie, Amy and their gorgeous Whippet, Finley.

This was a particularly emotional goodbye for me.

Tilly was rescued in China by our incredible colleagues at Candy’s Hound Rescue and I will never forget the heartbreaking videos Kerry sent me of her at the veterinary clinic. She was trembling uncontrollably, her eyes wide with fear. To say this tiny girl was traumatised would be an understatement.

When Tilly eventually arrived at SSR, that same fear was still very much evident. For the first week, she visibly shook, struggling to understand that she was finally somewhere safe. Gradually, she began to relax, little by little, and it was a privilege to watch her slowly find the courage to trust.

Tilly formed a particularly strong bond with me, and I became her safe space, the person she turned to for reassurance when the world felt overwhelming.

Letting her go was incredibly difficult, but rescue is ultimately about giving these precious souls the opportunity to enjoy the lives they deserve.

I couldn't have wished for a more wonderful family for Tilly. Annie and Amy understand her needs and will give her all the time, patience, compassion and love she needs to continue building her confidence.
I'm delighted to say that Tilly is already making lovely progress in her new home.

She's mastered the stairs entirely of her own accord, and Annie and Amy have just sent me the most wonderful update. Not only has Tilly ventured upstairs independently, but she's also made herself comfortable on their bed, alongside Finley! She's also found her own little safe spaces where she can retreat whenever she feels overwhelmed.

These may seem like small achievements, but for a little dog who has experienced such profound fear, they are enormous steps forward and a lovely indication that she's beginning to feel safe and secure in her new home.

I will miss this precious little soul terribly, but knowing she is safe, loved and beginning to embrace her new life makes the heartache of saying goodbye so worthwhile.

Thank you, Annie and Amy, for giving Tilly such a wonderful home and for the lovely updates, which mean more to me than you know.

And, of course, our heartfelt thanks to Candy's Hound Rescue for saving this precious little life and giving her the chance of a future she could never have imagined 🩵

🩵🩵🩵 BRIAR UPDATE 🩵🩵🩵

We had hoped that our little man would be well enough to be discharged from Arthur Lodge today. However, following an update from the duty vet, we have agreed that it is in Briar’s best interests to remain in their care for another night.

This morning, whilst receiving intravenous pain relief, Briar tolerated his first bandage change well and, with some gentle support, even managed to tentatively toddle outside for a toilet break.

However, as the veterinary team have begun transitioning him from intravenous to oral pain medication, he has become noticeably less comfortable. Given the extent of his injuries and the complexity of his surgery, ensuring his pain is adequately managed remains our absolute priority.

Briar is in excellent hands and receiving the very best care. We have complete confidence in his veterinary team and will continue to follow their guidance at every stage of his recovery.

We will review his progress with the vets again tomorrow morning and decide on the next steps from there.

🩵🩵🩵 BRIAR – SURGERY UPDATE 🩵🩵🩵

It’s been an incredibly long day, but I wanted to share an update on our little Lurcher, whom we’ve named Briar.

Following a lengthy and complex operation, I’m delighted to report that his surgery went well. Our incredible orthopaedic surgeon, Edrick, was very pleased with the outcome, and Briar now has plates in place to stabilise his fractured bones.

This evening, Briar has been transferred to Arthur Lodge for overnight care and pain management. The photograph was taken when I collected him following surgery, and all being well, we hope to bring him back to the rescue tomorrow.

The next six weeks will involve strict crate rest, apart from brief toilet breaks. We will be doing everything possible to keep him comfortable and mentally stimulated whilst giving his legs the time they need to heal.

Our veterinary team and the staff at Crossways have been absolutely exceptional, and we are incredibly fortunate to have such dedicated and skilled professionals caring for our dogs.

We have also been completely overwhelmed by the kindness and generosity shown following Briar’s appeal.

To everyone who has donated, shared his story or sent messages of support, please accept our heartfelt thanks.

I would particularly like to acknowledge an individual who wishes to remain anonymous, who made an unexpected and exceptionally generous donation towards our bill, directly to our vets today. Your kindness has touched us deeply.

Running a rescue brings many challenges, and sometimes the financial and emotional demands can be overwhelming. But when we are faced with situations like Briar’s, our wonderful supporters never fail to rally around us.

It is because of people like you that we can continue giving dogs like Briar the second chances they so desperately deserve.

We never take your support for granted, and we are more grateful than words can express.

🩵🩵🩵 EMERGENCY RESCUE – URGENT APPEAL 🩵🩵🩵

Last night, we took a young dog into our care following an emergency call for help.

This poor little man had been discovered by a member of the public, lying helpless in the undergrowth, unable to move.

The dog warden was contacted and immediately rushed him to Wylie Veterinary Centre, where X-rays revealed the devastating extent of his injuries. Both front legs are completely fractured through the radius and ulna, as you can clearly see from the images.

Quite how this little boy came to be in such a dreadful situation remains a mystery. He was discovered in open countryside, some distance from any roads, and the circumstances surrounding his injuries are far from clear. We do not wish to speculate about what may have happened, but it is deeply concerning that such a young dog was found in this condition.

We were subsequently contacted to ask whether we could offer him a lifeline.

At approximately 8 months of age, this beautiful pup has his whole life ahead of him. Despite everything he has endured, he has the sweetest, most gentle temperament.

Tragically, without rescue intervention, the alternative was euthanasia. We simply could not allow that to be his fate without giving him every possible chance of recovery and the happy, pain free future he deserves.

We have spent the night keeping him as comfortable as possible, carefully repositioning him every couple of hours and ensuring he receives appropriate pain relief.

What has touched us most is that, despite the severity of his injuries and everything he must be going through, his little tail has not stopped wagging whenever someone approaches to care for him. His trust and gentle nature are truly humbling 🥹

He is booked for surgery this morning, and we are facing veterinary costs of at least £6,000 to repair both legs.

As many of you know, we rarely make appeals for financial assistance. We do everything within our means to meet the costs of the dogs entrusted to our care, but occasionally a situation arises where we genuinely need to ask for your help.

This is one of those occasions.

We know times are difficult for many, but if our wonderful followers could come together to help us give this little boy the future he deserves, we would be enormously grateful.

No donation is too small. Even the price of a coffee can make a meaningful difference when enough people come together.

Please, if you are able to donate, or even share his story, you will be helping us give this precious young dog a second chance at life 🩵
