We seek an enthusiastic, creative and passionate Spotlight Assistant Lead to join the Project 21 team on a fixed-term contract Oct - Dec 2026, with opportunity for permanent hours from Jan 2027 🌟

Spotlight is our performing arts provision for people with Down’s Syndrome, creating high-quality opportunities across dance, drama and performance. Working alongside our Spotlight Lead, you’ll help plan and deliver engaging sessions, rehearsals, performances and creative projects that enable our members to develop their confidence, creativity and performance skills, express themselves and achieve their potential.

We’re looking for someone who brings energy, initiative and creativity, builds brilliant relationships with our members and shares our ambition to provide performing arts opportunities that are exciting, inclusive and impactful.

🎭 SPOTLIGHT ASSISTANT LEAD ✨️

☆ 19th October – 18th December 2026
☆ £15ph, 24hrs per week. Mon - Thurs: 10am - 4pm
☆ Based at Project 21 Clubhouse, Brightwell Barns

DESIRABLE REQUIREMENTS:

▪︎ Studied and/or trained in performing arts – we welcome current students, graduates and experienced freelancers
▪︎ Experience in a classroom or learning environment preferrable

✨️ For the right candidate, there may be an opportunity for the Wednesday hours to become permanent from January 2027.

Today marks the start of National Inclusion Week 🌻 Project 21 are celebrating the wishes, ambitions and incredible potential of our members.

Over the past eight years, we’ve watched our members grow in confidence, discover their talents, learn new skills and achieve things they may once have thought were beyond their reach.

🌳 Our Project 21 Wish Tree represents hopes and dreams

We invited our members to share a wish for their future and talk to us about how we can help them achieve it. From performing on stage and working in an office to developing independence, making new friends and trying something completely new – every wish is personal and every wish matters.

At Project 21, inclusion is about more than being invited to take part. It’s about being valued, encouraged and given genuine opportunities to succeed.

We’ll continue helping our members to belong, supporting them to believe in themselves and creating opportunities to achieve their wishes.

Because with the right support, encouragement and opportunities, everyone can flourish 💛💗💙

PROJECT 21 IS 8! 🎉

Eight years ago, Project 21 began with an idea.
A belief that people with Down’s Syndrome deserve more than the poor, cost-cutting resources on offer to them in the East of England.

More opportunities. More adventure. More independence. Better trained staff. More chances to learn, work, perform, socialise, travel, belong - and live life to the absolute fullest 💙

Eight years later, we are a community of more than 300 people with Down’s Syndrome, supported by an incredible team of 50, with services spanning four counties and adventures reaching across the UK.

But Project 21 has never really been about numbers...

It’s about the first night away from home.
The first day at work.
The joy felt being in a place that challenges, supports and nurtures you.
The friendships (and lovers!) who become inseparable.
The confidence to stand on a stage.
The families watching their loved one achieve something they never thought possible.

And we are nowhere near finished.

Our community is growing. Our ambitions are growing. And our determination to change what adulthood can look like for people with Down’s Syndrome has never been stronger.

To every member, family, staff member, donor and supporter who has been part of our story — thank you so much for believing in us.

And just like that, another successful summer of Project 21 adventures comes to an end… ☀️

5 musicals, 3 weeks, 2 boats, 60 people with Down’s Syndrome, 2000 miles and countless hearts touched across the breadth of the UK.

Project 21 believes life is for living – and that means trying new things, discovering new places and experiencing the freedom, adventure and joy that every adult deserves.

New friendships made, comfort zones tested, confidence gained, laughter shared and independence grown. The memories made will last long after we come home 🩵

Thank you to everybody we’ve met along the way this summer, and to everyone who has helped make these adventures possible. It’s been nothing short of incredible – we already can’t wait for next time ✨

Our second week of making memories in Kent ✨

From the White Cliffs of Dover and beautiful National Trusts to rollercoasters, a K-Pop party in Tunbridge Wells and not one but TWO incredible theatre trips to see Hercules & SIX! ⚡️👑🎶 We may or may not have persuaded our fabulous coach driver Martin to join us for a show with a glittery face...

As always, the best part wasn’t where we went - it was experiencing it all together. Seeing our members grow in confidence and try new things is exactly what residentials are all about.

Very tired, very happy and already looking forward to the next (and last) adventure of the summer 💙 Watch out, UK - the blue tops are on tour and may be coming to a hostel near you 👕🚌 Roll on the Lake District in a few days time!

Hayley has already become a valued colleague, excelling in a new environment and showcasing top tier organisational skills she developed through years of previously volunteering.

The Sizewell team were incredible, ensuring Hayley felt supported and included from the moment she arrived. They truly understand and implement the adjustments needed to enable Hayley to thrive in the workplace.

This is exactly what supported employment should look like: recognising potential, providing the right support and creating meaningful opportunities for people with Down’s Syndrome to demonstrate everything they have to offer in the workplace.
