Our club grounds are the envy of many other sports clubs and with the redevelopment of our Clubhouse we are looking to the future ๐Ÿ“ˆ

Larne RFC President Derek Lough was on hand to oversee proceedings as the McCullagh Cup was proudly presented to the Over 30s following a hard-fought and entertaining match.

The cup was presented by Gerryโ€™s wife, Rita, to the winning captain, Jimmy McCluggage. In a nice touch, Jimmy not only led the Overs to victory today but also played in the very first McCullagh Cup match over 20 years ago ๐Ÿ‘

A special thank you to the Ulster Branch for granting permission for this fixture to take place out of season.

We would also like to thank club member and former 1st XV Captain Craig Gibson for refereeing the match.

The Gerry McCullagh Match is always an enjoyable occasion at Larne RFC and long may it continue! ๐Ÿ’ฏ

At the end of each rugby season we have an annual memorial game on the pitch as the old timers play against the youngsters of the club to see if youthful exuberance can get the better of experience. This is all done in remembrance of Dr Gerry McCullagh, a lifelong club member.

Gerry was one of the guiding lights of our move in 1975 from Sandy Bay to Glynn. He took charge of the big move and set about getting the building we now know as the Clubhouse planned and built on the grounds.

Gerry was also an instrumental part of the committee which bought and organised the pitches on the grounds we call home turf. Still playing 6th XV rugby into his 50โ€™s Gerry was a true rugby man who loved everything to do with the game and Larne RFC.

When he eventually stopped playing Gerry served as Branch rep for many years. He was tour secretary for the 1998 Tour to Australia and enjoyed every minute down under.

After Gerryโ€™s death, it was decided to show our appreciation of his immense contribution to the club with this annual game โค๏ธ

Well done to everyone last night! Fantastic to see so many out and enjoying the game, doing our club and yourselves proud!

The improvement over the last seven weeks has been great and new faces are still welcome, letโ€™s keep building!

Thank you to Civil Service Ladies for travelling to us, it was great to host you and we look forward to meeting you again!

It is a huge honour to be elected as President at tonightโ€™s AGM.
This club has been a huge part of my life from about the age of 9 where I was coached under the watchful eye of Paul Montgomery.

I have been fortunate to hold many positions across committees in subsequent years and understand just how special our wee club is and importantly how much potential we have.

What makes us special? We are more than just a sports club.

Itโ€™s the people
Itโ€™s the sense of belonging
Itโ€™s the community

My theme for the presidency will be Community, a strong community is the foundation of everything we do. One thing that is crucial within community is UNITY- unity across all areas of our club.

When we are United, we are stronger and we achieve more.

I am committed to working across all sections of the club to strengthen that sense of unity and continue building a club that we can all be proud of.

A huge thanks to those who have supported me to this point, to my family (I couldnโ€™t do it without the support of them), volunteers, sponsors and all those who have offered quiet counsel.

My first order of business was to nominate the below gentlemen as Hon. Vice Presidents of our club. Combined they have dedicated many lifetimes of work and commitment.

Welcome to the new Hon. Vice Presidents
Ronnie Lough, Jock Maybin, Arthur James and Ivor Armstrong. We are indebted to these individuals an many many more for the dedication shown to Larne RFC.

Well done to all those elected tonight, to Trevor Andrews our Senior Vice President and Stevie Love our new Junior vice president, a huge thanks to those who are stepping away from committee for your work throughout the last period.
