Former intern Jake and student Alice spoke to Channel 4 this week about the challenges young people face when trying to secure their first jobs. They shared their own experiences of navigating the local job market and the barriers they have faced.

The interview comes as new research highlights a significant decline in starter job opportunities for young people across the UK, with many facing increasing competition for available roles.

We are proud to see them using their voices and raising awareness of this important issue!

Our HND Sport students at LMC have been delivering weekly confidence boosting, fitness building and teamwork focused sessions with our Supported Interns.

After surveying the group, they created a brilliant mix of classroom activities, fitness‑suite workouts and sports hall sessions which were all designed to support the interns’ goals of staying active, developing teamwork skills and having fun! 🙌

Using knowledge from units such as Activity Leadership, Exercise for Specific Groups and Inclusive Sport on their HND Sport programme, Alys and Millie have shown fantastic initiative and professionalism.

Alongside this project, they’ve also gained valuable experience working with local primary schools through the School Sport Partnership and delivering sessions at Morecambe Road School.

Our HND Students have also gained qualifications in Pediatric First Aid and L1 Multi Skills to further enhance their development to support their careers in the sports industry. Amazing, well done and thank you! 😍

It's , and we want to highlight the amazing success of one of our recent Interns, Jake Anderson, who has just secured a job as a Non-Clinical Support Worker at RLI UHMBT Careers & Apprenticeships Team 🙌

Jake was a standout student on the Supported Internship, throwing himself into every placement and taking on responsibilities with enthusiasm. After completing the course, Jake showed determination, applying for every opportunity he could find and attending every interview, all while volunteering at The Salvation Army charity shop. Despite facing setbacks, Jake never gave up, and his efforts have finally paid off THIS WEEK!🥰

This week, Jake attended his interview at RLI for the role of a Non Clinical Support Worker and was offered the job later than day! We couldn't be more proud of Jake, and it just goes to show you should never give up.

We recently received some lovely feedback about intern, Ian. A member of staff at RLI said 'Ian has been absolutely amazing to work alongside and he has come along leaps and bounds since he started months ago, he just uses his own initiative and has been a great member of the team on ward 23'!
