Family Stay and Play is an informal monthly meet up set up by Matilda’s Mission to create an opportunity for connection between bereaved families so the adults can chat over a brew while siblings play in a safe space. Families old and new are welcome. Everyone is greeted on arrival and made to feel welcome. If you’re new to Matilda’s Mission and would benefit from an introduction, a drop in, or to find out more, please do send us a message. 📧

📆 Save the date 📆

Our annual Wave of Light Memorial Service will return again this year during Baby Loss Awareness Week. This is always such a special event, that we hope brings some comfort to families.

Please join us from 6.30pm on 15th October (7pm for Wave of Light) to remember our babies and take a moment to reflect.

During the memorial, we will light up the steps of the memorial in pink and blue, names will be read from our memorial leaflet, followed by the lighting of candles at 7pm and a minutes silence.

If you have previously asked for your babies name to be added to the leaflet, they will remain there. If you would like your babies name to be added, please send us a DM by 1st October with how you would like their name to appear and we will happily add this for you. Memorial leaflets will be available on the evening for those in attendance.

Tea & Coffee will be available prior to the Wave of Light.

All our events are free for bereaved families, funded by Matilda’s Mission and run by volunteers. If you would like to make a donation to Matilda’s Mission you can do this on the evening. We are very grateful for any donations which help us to keep supporting local, bereaved families.

Note - Please feel free to bring your own candles, however, we ask that you take these home after the memorial as we cannot leave them on the park.

As we begin this new month, we are remembering all September babies. Whether this month is your baby’s birth month, due date month, anniversary month, or a month that feels meaningful to you, you are welcome to share thier name below.

If September is a special month for you, we are sending you love, strength and hope that it is gentle for you and your family.

We will be honoured to read your babies names and remember them with you 🤍

For the babies who should be starting school this September 🎒🤍

As September approaches, the familiar back to school posts will begin filling our feeds. We just want to take a moment to acknowledge that for some of us, back to school can be another difficult reminder of missed milestones.

There are babies who should be getting ready for their first day of school. Babies whose names we should be writing on labels, whose uniforms we should be hanging up ready, whose little hands we should be holding as they walk through those school gates.

Instead, we carry their memories, their names and the love we will always have for them.

To every bereaved parent facing this September: you are not forgotten, and neither is your baby. It is okay if this time of year feels painful. It is okay to step away from social media, to feel angry, to cry, or all of the above.

To those who know someone who has lost a baby, please think of them this week. A simple “I’m thinking of you and your baby today” can mean more than you know.

For every little one who should be starting school this year, you are loved, you are remembered, and you will always be part of your family’s story. 🤍

Due to the popularity of last years event, this year we are going bigger!

This event is funded by Matilda’s Mission for adult family members who have been affected by baby or child loss. We welcome parents, grandparents, adults siblings…

🎅🏻 Each person attending is asked to bring a small wrapped gift (suitable for male or female) as a Secret Santa gift. This can be fun, silly, edible, or whatever you like! (Max £3pp budget). This means each person attending will have a secret Santa gift to take home.

We can’t wait to see you there!

📖 Matilda’s Mission Memory Books 📖

Our lovely volunteer, Emma, delivered the first batch of books to UHMBT Maternity for The Willow Suite this week.

For those who don’t know, The Willow Suite offers a peaceful, private sanctuary for families experiencing baby loss and is situated within the delivery suite at RLI.

Matilda’s Mission Memory Books will be available for families using The Willow Suite. Each family can choose a book which has been thoughtfully presented in an organza bag. If they wish, they can read the book to their baby, and then take this home as a reminder of the time spent together.

Each book has been donated in memory of another baby who sadly died and includes an ‘In Memory of..’ sticker, as a reminder that you are not walking this path alone.

These also contain a little pair of matching wooden hearts, one for the baby and one for the family to keep; another little way to continue that feeling of connection and continuing bonds.

What a beautiful day we had on Saturday for our annual summer family day!

We enjoyed swing boats, train rides, outdoor games, ice creams and picnics!

We are so grateful to be able to run sessions like this for bereaved families, these moments of memory making are extremely treasured and special for our families.

Watching the Matilda’s Mission siblings filling up the swing boats was something quite special, there may have been a tear or two; but these were far outweighed by the smiles and laughter we shared.
