The Resolution Foundation this week suggested the government should consider the development of a social tariff, in order to help address the potential rise in domestic energy prices.

Their report said a social tariff that provides targeted subsidies for gas and electricity bills could provide average support of Β£310 for the poorest tenth of households, rising to Β£520 for a family with high energy needs.

Analysis suggests it could deliver greater support to households that use more energy and can exclude those on higher incomes.

In whatever way the government decides to support fuel poor households in the short term, our free impartial advice on upgrading homes with insulation and renewable energy is vital to address the underlying energy efficiency of homes in Lancashire.

The government announced yesterday new funding to help mostly rural and off-grid homes using heating oil.

While this is welcome short-term support for those that qualify, it doesn't address underlying energy security issues for many households.

Through our range of fuel poverty and able-to-pay support, we're helping more people transition to lower cost, lower carbon and more energy secure solutions.
