Huge congratulations to our Chess team!

Yesterday they faced a really tough side in Altrincham Grammar (who have been the regional winners for the past few years) and LRGS won 4-2.

This now means that they are Northwest Champions and they've made it through to the English Schools Chess Championship Finals.

Congratulations to our chess players who played against 24 different grammar school teams yesterday.
The results:
The A team finished 2nd, narrowly missing out on 1st place to Crossley Heath.

The B team finished in 3rd place.

The C team made up of four Year 7s finished in 12th.

Another Congress been and gone! Thank you so much to everyone who played and supported our event. We hope to see you all for our standard play in August! (Details will be on website soon)

This rapidplay we had some great competitive chess across the boards in all 4 sections. Along with the usual prize winners we had diversity prizes for, best female player, best player 65 and over and best u16 player.

Yesterday evening concluded our 3rd Annual Lancaster Standard Play Chess Congress hosted in the Storey Building.

A great weekend of fun and competitive chess which welcomed a plethora of youngsters, chess veterans and female players. With a prize fund of £2750 won from the Minor, Intermediate, Major and Open sections including bonus Grading prizes and diversity prizes including Best Female player, Best player under 16 and Best Player over 65.

🚨ONE WEEK TILL CONGRESS ‼️‼️🚨

We are now only one week away until Lancasters Third Annual Standard Play Congress (held in the Storey Building located next to Lancaster Train station and near to Lancaster Bus Station) which commences the evening of Friday the 15th of August playing right through to the afternoon of Sunday the 17th of August. If you wish to enter and have not done so yet there is a link below to our Congress page; any entries received on Wednesday 13th of August or Thursday 14th of August will require a £5 late fee additional to the £40 signing up fee (£42 for non ECF Members).

Happy International Chess Day ♟️

A reminder that Chess is a historic game enjoyed by many accompanied by many great bonuses such as learning new skills and meeting knew people, so to all interested a reminder that Lancaster Chess Club meets every Tuesday from 7pm-9pm at Lancaster Bridge Club on Chapel street, as well as this there is the club every Saturday from 10am-12am in Lancaster Library which attracts a separate diversity of players of different skills levels and is a great way to drop in and learn the game.

Also, approaching quickly is the 3rd Annual Lancaster Standard Chess Play Congress at the story building commencing the weekend 15th, 16th and 17th of August with 4 sections there is competitive competition for everyone and with a prize fund of £2750 it will attract a variety of players of all skill levels. There is a link to enter below, with a capacity of 120 entrants and filling up quickly I suggest you enter now if you wish to play .
