Soooo...social media is...not my favourite! 🙈 I find it really difficult to make sense of, the goal posts are constantly moving, I hate feeling like I have to dance to the beat of some algorithm, and now we have AI to contend with....

But for all my frustrations, it remains an important part of my communication strategy! Not much point in being a play resource for families if you all dont know I'm here!

So here I am, trying my best to reach you in a way that is authentic to myself, my brand and all we do....

"There is no must in art because art is free" - Wassily Kandinsky

Last week I had a little one visit the colour room with her family. She had been before and immediately started chatting away to me about what she planned to do with her session.
"I want to use pastels to do a picture like Kandinsky!"
Now, I personally hadn't heard of Kandinsky so I asked her to tell me more! "He did lots of pictures with circles. You put one colour in the middle and then more colours round it and then a square round then all in the middle colour to make a pattern!" And she proceeded to demonstrate using the Kitpas crayons (the ones we use on the windows!)

Meanwhile I searched up Wassily Kandinsky....
1866 - 1944
Born in Russia, He loved colour and music and experienced synaesthesia which meant that he saw colours when he heard music and associated different sounds with specific colours. Its maybe not surprising then that he is largely considered one of the pioneers of abstract art. His entire experience of the world was fairly abstract!

When her session ended the little artist gifted me one of her pictures and I found myself thanking a five year old for not only the picture, but introducing me to art I hadn't come across yet! ☺️. I found myself thinking, yet again, This is why its important to me that ColourPlay stays unstructured. There are art classes and lessons in school and tutorials, and thats all good...but here is where we practice! Where we explore the things that MOST spark our interest, BUILD on those ideas we have been introduced to and find new ones! At ColourPlay, we learn new things by coming alongside each other and just DOING stuff! I'm not going to stand at the front and tell you what you must do, because there is no must in art!

SPACE THIS SUNDAY

For all ages, baby to grandparent, ColourPlay is the freeplay creative room where everyone can get involved!

Whether it's throwing paint onto our graffiti wall, painting or drawing on our windows and glass board, mixing colours in our messy tray, exploring printing techniques on our feestyle floor, making junk models from our recycling collection, trying your hand at some crafts, or getting creative on canvas with our watercolours, acrylics, pastels, or crayons.

Make a mess, or make a masterpiece!

We are closed today, Saturday 29th August, due to other family commitments, but we are open as normal tomorrow, 12pm until 4pm. Come in and give it a go.

Hey art fans!

At its heart ColourPlay CIC is a community resource, dedicated to breaking down the barriers stopping people from freely engaging with art activities. The social, emotional and cognitive benefits of art are well documented and we believe that everyone should be able to access it in a way that is meaningful to them. Regardless of age or ability.

In addition to our family sessions, we host community groups, partner with educators and run ASN sessions. Often ColourPlay is the space where people feel for the first time that they can have a go without being pressured or judged.

In order to remain affordable, flexible and available to those who most need us, we are really excited to be able to offer our new online shop where you can browse our unique range of clothing, homeware and art! !! NEW !! Parent, Baby & Toddler Sessions

We are very excited to be starting our new Parent, Baby & Toddler Sessions NEXT WEEK!

A relaxed, drop-in creative session for parents and carers, running every Thursday from 10am to 12pm (starting 20th August).

The two-hour window is yours to use however suits you and your little one. Stay for the whole session or pop in and out around naps, feeds, and the rest of your day. It’s aimed mainly at babies through to pre-school age, though all ages are welcome and additional adults are happy to join in.

Little hands can explore our messy play, paint, and mark-making at their own pace in a calm, friendly space, with grown-ups creating alongside them. Please dress for mess, as we don’t provide aprons. A range of cold drinks and snacks is available to buy from our Tasty Palette.

A lovely way to meet other families and let your youngest discover colour for the first time.

Are your kids like ours?

Even with the beautiful weather we've been having, some of them would still happily spend the whole summer indoors with a controller in hand, eyes fixed on a screen.

ColourPlay is a wonderful alternative for the family. Our Colour Room is an indoor space that never feels overwhelming: there's room to get up, move about and be properly hands-on, whilst exploring the creative side a screen just can't reach.

Here, everyone plays their way. Draw on the graffiti wall, paint the glass wall, dive into the messy tray, or make a masterpiece on canvas, with a huge range of creative materials to explore, and most of it already included in your session.
Make a mess, or make a masterpiece. Either way, they'll be up, active and heading home with something they're proud of.

Open Wednesday to Sunday right through the summer holidays, here in Kirkintilloch.

Hey Colour fans!!

I've been on holiday! 😃 (As I know many of you have too!)
It's been great to have a bit of a break, spend time with family and enjoy some warm weather for a change but...has anyone else been struggling with the pollen in East Dunbartonshire this week?! 😭😭😭 I know I've had runny nose, itchy eyes, the whole shebang and have been trapped indoors for the last few days of my holiday! (Good thing I had a book I wanted to read anyway!)

I popped down the the Colour room today to make sure everything is ready for getting back to the routine tomorrow and, Good news, I could breath freely in there! 😃
ColourPlay is clean, cool, pollen free and ready to play!

So whether you need a break from the heat, the pollen or are just ready for something different to do with the kids, we're back for family sessions, Wednesday to Sunday for the rest of summer!
